Kean sets himself opening day target

Steve Kean has made the fans a promise he'll have to keep after setting himself a target of at least 3 new faces by the start of the campaign opener at home to Wolves - which is less than 2 weeks away.

Rovers got off to a slow start in the transfer window but have got their act together in recent weeks by bidding like crazy for top European talent.

With the scenes of chaos across Ewood it is hard to know what is going on at times but Kean has clarified that whilst youth will play a part this season the pressure is on to bring in the big names.

Kean is reported on goal.com - 'We lost Phil Jones and Nikola Kalinic, who didn`t feature as much in the latter half of the season anyway. Fortunately we are blessed with a brilliant academy and have several youngsters like Adam Henley, [Myles] Anderson, and Zac Aley coming through.

'From other clubs, we can`t mention names as these players belong to other clubs but we shall sign at least three players before the season begins. We have some good targets and if we acquire them, then a top 10 place is a very realistic aim for this season.'

'The reason for us not signing any players till now is because they are very good players and so it becomes very complicated as their parent club tries to resist any deal'

'The club owners have given me a good budget in this transfer window and we have made several bids but completing any deal is a complicated process. We can`t name players since if we don`t manage to sign them then it would disappoint the supporters.'

The first two of these signings will be David Goodwillie of Dundee United and Radosav Petrovic of Partizan Belgrade.

Petrovic's work permit is expected back tomorrow and Goodwillie himself is putting pen to paper tomorrow after all but becoming a Rovers player this afternoon after the completion of a medical.

For those fearing he may stop by Glasgow on his way back to Dundee tonight here is a little reassurance - He has been spotted on Sky Sports News signing Rovers shirts for fans this evening.

It's starting to shape and it certainly looks a lot more promising than it did a few weeks ago!!!

Let's hope this all goes to plan or there's going to be a lot of anger directed at him and Venky's if come the new season we havn't signed anyone. I wouldn't wanna be Kean right now!
fransavarese
It sure does Mikey. So maybe two new signings tomorrow, THATS JUST GREAT. IM SO HAPPY WITH THIS NEWS THAT THE CAPS ARE GOING TO BE LEFT ON FOR THE REST OF THIS POST LOL.

I'm still nowhere near the panic button. I still think that main striker should be priority after Goodwillie, Petrovic and maybe even Mongongu (anyone know where he is??) sign for us. Vieirinha looks good but we have Olsson, Hoilett, Emo and... erm (cough, cough) Pedersen :-/ for the wings at present.
ITSALLROVER
It's interesting that Kean's committed himself to 3 new players by the start of the season - not by the end of the transfer window. I wonder if that means that there might be more coming in? Mind you, let's not be greedy - let's just get the first one in before reckoning on four or five :P

Absolute tosh. We lost Jones and Kalinic yes, but we also lost JJ, MB Diouf, Santa Cruz and Benjani.. we need at least 5 players. the 3 players will be Goodwillie, Petrovic and Mongongu.. so that leaves us short of 1 or 2 strikers.. The 3 players will cost under 10 million.. so where is the Jones money + 5 million per window? We have been failing to sign players because we are not in touch with market value.. and the sooner Venkys realise they have to pay 5m+ for some players the sooner we can get deals done.

Just goes to show panicking about goings on at Rovers is no good. I had no doubt whatsoever that we would bring in players. Still need a defender or 2 if Samba leaves. And most definitely someone who can lead our front line.
St_Jimmy_77
So are the three players including Goodwillie and Petrovic? If so I can't see us finishing top ten. Our squad is considerably weaker than last season.
FreidelNo.1
But you must remember Freidel how we finished last season. that was a team with confidence and if we can carry that through with a couple of signings as well, we should do fine. goodwillie who we just signed, formica, rochina will feel like new signing and petrovic looks like he is just waiting on work permit. Mongongu looks doubtful but he did want to play for us but it seems there having a little trouble getting his passport sorted so i wouldn't hold my breath waiting for him.
