Kean hopeful with Nelsen return

Kean hopeful with Nelsen return

Rovers boss Steve Kean is expecting Ryan Nelsen to be fit and healthy for the start of the new campaign which gets under way in just over 2 weeks time.

Rovers have been without the services of their club captain since March time after he underwent an operation to clear up a knee injury which ruled him out of the back end of last season.

But Nelsen has made solid progress and Kean has been taking advice of his medical team and is optimistic.

Kean told the Lancashire Telegraph -'Unfortunately we lost Ryan towards the end of last season, he had quite a major operation on his knee.

'He's taking part in some of the sessions but talking to our medical team, they're confident he'll be fit for the start of the season which is tremendous'

'We've got a senior group that's very important to us and I'm confident he'll be fit for the start of the season.'

We definitely need him back as we are yet to find a replacement for Jones and we are short on centre backs...

Another reason we need to keep Samba - Nelsen isn't getting any younger.

Yes we defo need him back he has valuable experience but hopefully we can introduce some more young players this year. Hanley will hopefully play more games this year and maybe introduce Irish under 19 star anthony o'connor he had a great world cup this year he looks good for the future plus john o'sullivan was exceptional for Ireland in midfield defo one to watch.
