Roberts on fire in friendly romp

He may be much maligned but he's got his pre-season campaign off to a rip roaring start.

Rovers ran out comfortable winners this lunch time in a specially arranged friendly against Oldham Athletic at Brockhall.

Rovers and Oldham took part in two adjacent games played on opposite pitches with all of the usual first team names taking part.

The games also meant a reunion with former Rover Paul Dickov who is manager of Oldham.

In the first game Jason Roberts grabbed the spoils with a hat-trick in a 5-0 coast with further goals from young prospect Adam Henley and master of the universe/general king of Spain Michel Salgado.

In the opposite game Oldham managed to level proceedings by beating the other Rovers side 1-0 in a closely fought game.

The Rovers official website is reporting that 24 first team players got a run out in all as this kick about gave Steve Kean's boys a good early run out.

:-0... Speechless. Has he bought a new pair of personalised boots to adjust the spoon feet? lol. On a serious note i'm pleased for J-Rob, not his biggest fan due to poor finishing ability but fair play he does put the effort in and would be worth a fortune if he scored a few more goals. Let's hope he carries this sort of form on into the new season.

Sounds like a good time was had by all, any truth in the rumour that Pavone was playing I wonder?

Apparently he was in the side that lost with some trialists.

Let's get this in perspective, we beat Oldham reserves(ish) JRob is true pro, but he isn't good enough to start in the premier league at best he has scored 7 goals in the league in a season, he averages about 1 goal per 6 games, hardly prolific.. however he is better than Benjani

I think jrob is good to have in the team, played well at the end of last season.. can hold the ball up well - he just needs to be put with a striker who will score..
