Benjani signs new one year deal

Benjani signs new one year deal

News that Benjani has signed a new contract this morning has been met with a lot of moans and groans by the Rovers faithful.

Benjani reported to Brockhall training ground this morning to start his pre-season training to get him ready for the long season ahead. He told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph:

"I have always wanted to stay at Blackburn Rovers and I am looking forward to the new season here. I know I have to work hard in pre season to get myself ready for it.

"I believe there is a lot more to come from me at this club and enjoying a full pre season will help me to show that. I was playing catch up for most of last season and it was difficult.

"What has happened before doesn`t matter. It is what happens from now and that is why I was back in training and am determined to work very hard.

"I am looking forward to the new season and glad to be back here."

At first hearing the news, I was very disappointed. Why sign second rate free transfers when we have money to spend? 3 goals last season and we sign him up again, why?

However, one thing I like about Benjani is his attitude. He is a player who wants to play for our club and one who is not just coming for a last pay day. He has taken a small wage to play football for a club he wants to play for unlike some players we currently have (hint: he is a 6ft5' African Centre back).

He has proved on a couple of occasions last year he has ability such as when he turned the Liverpool defence and sent the ball rocketing into the roof of the net. Who is to say he won't do it again and on a more regular basis?

One thing is for sure though, if he turns out in Blue and white halves next season and tries his best and works hard, I will be sat there cheering him on. We could have done better, but he has signed, get over it and move on.

Well said and well written! As a squad player I am fine with this and as you said 23 his attitude is first rate!

I actually like Benjani as he's always smiling and enjoys playing football - you're right he's not the best, behind Roberts and Kalinic for me, but a good squad player. I just hope he quadruples his goal tally!

He is a ruff and ready player ready to come in when the going gets tuff on the new striker we hopefully sign.. and can handle the pressure of being in the best league in the world physically and mentaly IMO

Mmmm takes up a strikers berth not sure why a) we would re-sgn him and b) why he would want to resign after limited opportunties to date

I'm not exactly doing cartwheels over this news but he is clearly happy to play for us so I will gladly cheer him on. You can't fault his effort when he does play and he's one of those kind of players that on his day could easily notch 2-3 goals in a game for us... Can we please sign a new player now though, August is creeping up on us already!!

He smiles a lot cos he's on thousands a week and he's not very good, if as our glorious owners and manager insist we are striving for europe then he isn't the answer, 3 goals a season from a striker is absolute garbage

still don't understand what he has done to earn this contract, he is def. last in our striker packing order in skills. but if he's signed for a small amount, he's not a bad player to have in the squad

One thing that i find curious about the whole Benjani situation is he has said he has signed a new 1 year deal. But the club have not announced it. Hardly says much for the fans being first to know. Also kinda *****es me off that i am getting nothing from my membership fee to RoversPlayer. Besides, shouldn't our two lesser strikers be Benjani and Roberts, and have 2 good strikers as apposed to chopping and changing our strikers during the season as they all seem to be average and not good enough? What's that saying? "the more things change the more they stay the same..." Not impressed myself.

The end of the Championship campaign of 2016/17 is only a month and a bit away from fans across the country but as we go in to the remaining weeks of the campaign...

Positive Signs For Bennett

Bennett was positive of Blackburn being able to see off Lancashire rivals Preston heading into this game at Ewood Park after the Norwich and Fulham results.

Minor Graham Setback

Blackburn had to do without Danny Graham against Preston following the groin problem that forced him off against Fulham last week. He could return against Brighton next week.

Hugely Frustrating

Mowbray admitted Blackburn didn't start the game well against Preston but had then been the dominant side so was 'majorly disappointed' not to record a victory.
