Rovers agree fee for Mongongu

Rovers have made an official approach for Monaco defender Cedric Mongongu with a fee being agreed today between the two clubs.

Monaco are royally screwed after being relegated to Ligue 2 last season and with Mongongu being one of their star names he is up for grabs at a reasonable price.

2.5 million is believed to be the figure that has been agreed as Steve Kean's men have moved in to negotiate the deal.

The deal probably won't be done until next week at the earliest as Steve Kean is not back in the UK till next week.

The player himself told Sky Sports earlier this week - "I am hearing so many reports and claims about me through the papers, but I am still a Monaco player"

"I have a contract until 2013. I am only 22 years old and I have a long future ahead of me. Blackburn would be a good opportunity, but staying with a very good club in France can also be fantastic.

"Let`s wait and see what happens before August 31, when the speculation will stop."

Mongongu is believed to be Phil Jones replacement and not an alternative for Chris Samba, just to make that clear before the press start salivating like a dog on a steady course of Strongbow Cider.

2.5 million? Not bad and this would be good business in my books!

Sounds good to me. At 22 he's got plenty of time to become a world class player and is in line with the clubs policy of blooding young players into the team. Makes perfect sense to sign him, also looking like the Samba sale has gone a bit cold so it could end up a formidable defensive partnership for years to come.

"...salivating like a dog on a steady course of Strongbow Cider" wha? Sounds like Mikey's been at the juice again!

FN1 - Sorry it was the best analogy I could think of off the top of my head! The fee has now been agreed and we're moving!

Sounds really positive. Let's hope we see it through!

Well hopefully this is a start to a big summer for the club, this player has abit of hype around him so fingers crossed he fits the bill. Now Venky's a left back, right back, center mid and 2 new strikers would be lovely thankyou!
