'If It's Football, It's Vital'

The Phil Jones shop window advert

Steve Kean has reiterated his desire to hold onto superstar defender Phil Jones, but you could be fooled reading the rest of his quotes.

Jones has been earmarked as a future England captain and more importantly, a future Rovers captain by all and sundry.

But with Jones attracting interest Kean has stepped into ward potential suitors off... before bigging him up a dream.

Kean told Sky Sports - "I don`t know if Phil would go straight into the team at a Champions League club'

"He is a Rolls-Royce, he is a fantastic player and is bound to attract interest.

"He plays like a 28-year-old, he`s got experience and calmness and when needed he has got that turn of pace."

"He is also a supporter and it`s great for the fans to see one of their own playing"

"He was outstanding at the end of the season."

"You always brace yourself for bids - we have had offers before for him and I am sure there will be solid ones in again"

"He will move on some time, but I can see him being captain here first."

A little admission at the end there? If Samba leaves then make Jones captain I say.

Please hold onto him Steve!

Got to hold on to him, especially if Samba goes. It would be one unbelievable commitment to such a young lad to make him captain at his age. How would the senior pros take to that? But if it takes that to keep him, then do it. I reckon he'd be able to handle it.

I'm quite confident he will stay and we need to show ambition now in who we bring to the club, If we bring quality players in then no player should feel the need to leave as we have to try and compete for honours, Venky's "Show us the money"

i too think jonesy would stay at least for next season, but kean really needs to go come out stronger in deterring potential offers

Talking him up even more will add a few million to his value, however, I've got this feeling we'll retain him for at least another season. Why rush to move on, others have done this before (with Rovers and other clubs) and often found out that the grass wasn't greener. Samba will leave I feel but Jones will stay.
Walker
we will really struggle if we lose Jones and samba, so lets hope the lads are encouraged to stay. However the owners need to show some ambition or these fellas will walk, if not this coming season, the next.

The owner's ambition will decide a lot won't it, not just for the immediate future but the long term future of Rovers too.
