Santa after permanent present

Santa after permanent present

Roque Santa Cruz has put his cards on the table by expressing his desire to stay at Blackburn after his loan spell finishes.

Santa Cruz has been on loan from Man City since January after originally leaving Rovers for City in 2008 and will need to return to City before trying to make his move to Rovers more of a long term thing. (Keeping up? Good.)

But despite being shall we say, less than competent in delivering precisely no goals since his return to Ewood Park the Paraguayan wants more.

Santa Cruz is quoted on ESPN Soccernet - 'The loan ends this summer and I need to see how it goes, but once I finish here I will need to go back to City'

'Everyone knows that I am very happy at Blackburn, I have a lot of friends.

'I have enjoyed my time here so it would be a great thing for me if I could stay but it is up to the club and City so we need to see what will happen.

'As a player you expect and want to play and of course when you come to my age you want to enjoy the last bit of football that you have left,' Santa Cruz added.

'I don't want to spend the rest of my career not playing. So that is the main consideration for me.'

He may want to stay here but is he worth keeping?

For his wages we can do better I suspect...

If he takes a 90% wage cut, can be sold to us for 100k, goes on a performance based contract AND starts looking like he cares then I would start to think about signing
10/05/2011 09:38:00
I will stick my neck out here, and remember who said it first lol, If Cruz joins on a permanent move, with a full pre-season under his belt I suspect he will get 15 goals plus next season. You dont become a bad player over night, He joined a struggling team lacking confidence and its evident he is also lacking the same confidence, As he has not been a roaring success the transfer fee will be much lower and it could prove good business is we can snap him up on the cheap

What absolute crap - he orchestrated his way out of Ewood to City and a bumper pay deal. Now he's saying the same thing to come back. I don't believe him... as soon as City qualify for the Champions League, he will want to stay there and play in the top games. If he truly wants to come back to us, I think we'd be better off finding a more prolific striker and one that is not as injury prone. For someone that really wants to come back, I don't see him busting a gut like Samba, who wants to leave!

i dunno , how much is he on a week ??????? he would suit us better than becks lol...........
10/05/2011 14:06:00
I think we would do better by moving on and looking elsewhere. He is unfortunately one of those players who picks up too many injuries and if we are banking on him being the man to score us the 15-20 goals a season to improve our position he will have to stay fit and vastly improve on his performances from this season. Can't see him dropping his wage demands much either while he's still under a lucrative contract with city.

Massive pay cut and a transfer fee of tuppence halfpenny, then okay. Other than that, no ta. If I was another player at Rovers and I knew that he was on loads more than me, and that he wasn't getting results, then it'd drive me up the wall. Like glen9 says, he's not become a bad player, but he's an awfully big risk.
10/05/2011 16:54:00
No thanks, he's a shadow of the player that first arrived at Ewood now on much larger wages and he isn't producing the goods in goals or support play
10/05/2011 19:55:00
I would snap him up. When he had excellent service from Bentley and Morton the man was prolific. If we buy a decent crosser of a ball and get him fit then he will score goals. I agree with glen. You dont become bad over night but with bad service how many goals will any top striker score. Sign him up and get Bentley and Warnock back to provide for him

Thanks for some fond memories. But no thanks, Santa.
