Samba - master of timing

Rovers captain Chris Samba has confirmed that he will consider his future as a player in the summer and that he will consider all options that come his way.

Samba has reiterated his happiness at Rovers and is not seeking to move away having just signed a new deal in February.

But you can't help that feel this was hardly inspired timing.

Samba told the Lancashire Telegraph - 'Everybody knows that I am an ambitious player."

'I am at an age now where I want to try to do something. You only have one career and it would be a shame to not make the best of it.

'I am happy at Blackburn, but I will study any opportunities that come my way this year.

'I'm not trying to move away, but of course I would look if it is the right thing for me.

'I think a move to Arsenal was very close in January, but that is life. You have to continue.

'If it happens, it happens, but it wasn't meant to be and football is like that. I committed myself to Blackburn and will always do my best.'

Seems a bit daft to cart this out now?!

agreed, but you gotta remember, he would of been asked certain questions....A) What does the future hold for Chris Samba, B) Any plans for the future, C) If offers come in, what will you do? D) How close was a deal with Arsenal in January....get my drift?

Will be a massive loss if he leaves.. we should reject all overs below 18 Million, if they really want him they can have him for that!

With many teams looking for defenders which seem hard to come by these days there will be a big list of clubs monitoring his situation. However historically its proved its cheaper to buy from abroad. If Rovers dig their heels in and ask for a fair price, cos after all if he was playing for one of the so called big four it would cost in access of £25 million to sign him then i'm sure he will remain a Rovers player. Clubs dont like to buy from British clubs cos they know its going to cost. Question is what is a fair price for a player wuth over 4 years left on his contract and club captain? I would they would have to break the transfer record for a fee recieved by Rovers, If Carroll is worth £35 Million I would want over £20 million for Samba and not the £6-8 Million which was quoted in January in some quarters

I would far prefer to lose him than Jones. At the end of the day we have shipped a hell of a lot goals this season (i think we have conceded more away goals than any other side). If we are to stop that i think we need to play phil and ryan at cb with Hanley as back up. I know samba was a threat in the other box but if we dont have that then we can go and buy a striker with decent ariel ability ie. Crouch

To be fair thought Nelsen is more of a squad player than Samba, Samba and Jones are the future of the central of defence. They are two players, one in their prime, one heading there... we can build a team round them.

His performance, especially in the last 15 mins or so, on Saturday should be enough to convince them to try and keep him.

While we have a terrible defensive record away from Ewood, our home record is top 6! Samba and Jones are the rock on which our team can/will be built in the future. I'd argue the lack of quality in the centre of the park - and down the wings until recently - is far more to blame for the number of goals we've shipped. Like any other top player, Samba isn't going to hang around in the Championship so he's really stating the obvious here. But I'd love to see him stay. His signing was (along with Nelsen) one of the best things Mark Hughes did for Rovers.

If Samba wants to go we should allow him to. I'd rather keep him, but he has busted a gut for us trying to keep us in the league. We should thank him and not hold back his career if a big offer comes in. I would be gutted to see him go - but that is life. However, the owners if they want to keep him could buy (not loan in) some good quality players to show him our ambitions for next season.
