Kalinic seeks assurances over Rovers future

Rovers striker Nikola Kalinic will seek assurances that he will see some more regular pitch action after finding himself shoved onto the periphery in recent weeks.

Kalinic started the Steve Kean reign as a favourite of the Scot but has fallen behind Jason Roberts, Roque Santa Cruz, Mame Biram Diouf and even it seems Benjani for a spot in the Rovers front line in the last few games.

And Niko's agent has clarified his position with a statement that indicates he would love to remain a Rover and that is very much his first choice but he will be forced to look elsewhere if he is not given game time.

Niko's agent Mr. Erceg told the Lancashire Telegraph - "It has not been easy for Nikola and we don`t know what has happened because last month he played for a strong Croatian team but he has not played a second for Blackburn.

"We are not even talking about other clubs now though because he is contracted with Blackburn and wants to concentrate on helping the club out of a difficult position.

"He likes Blackburn Rovers and is happy here but he needs to play. He is a young player who is very confident about what he can do and we will have to see what happens in the summer.

"We hope he will play and stay but if he does not play he might have to change clubs. We will speak with the club in the summer but until then there is no problem and he will keep working hard to help the club.

"Obviously there are clubs who would want him but they are not even in our thoughts at the moment."

Fall out with management? Injury? Illness? Either way Kalinic has to be a far better bet than Santa Cruz at present and yet he doesn't even make the bench?!

You didnt have to be genious to realise it was only amatter of time before the Lad decided enough is enough. The treatment of Kalinic has been unfair and once again it questions Steve Kean's ability to Manage the team. If we can see him a better option than the one's he is currently using and he can't then its a crying shame, and i'd back Niko to find another club who will give him the chance he needs. Roberts has 1 goal this year, Cruz aint scored, neither has Diouf, Benjani last found the net on the 5th January, Whilst Niko has hardly played but has found the net a couple of times whilst also assisting a couple of goals. And we wonder why we are in a relegation battle

Our forwards can't score and he leaves the top scorer out of the squad, SK is a proper tool. If Niko leaves who could blame him, he is young, talented and apparently not rated by the current management?? If SEM have another of their no name clients lined up to replace him I will be really pi$$ed off

I can understand Kean choosing Santa Cruz every week ahead of Niko with his reputation but when Roberts and Benjani are ahead of him it does beg the question has something gone off behind the scenes? If Roque can't score the goals this lad must be given a chance IMO

Agreed with all the above. If we're going to play this 4-3-3 system, Kalanic is the ideal point man. He runs all day, has reasonable pace and strength, good skills to link up with Hoillett and Olsson and can score (although has had rotten luck with woodwork denying him). Even if you add up the abilities of Roberts, Santa (on present form) & Benjani you don't get Niko's level. Come clean Kean, what's the problem??

it's very unfortunate niko has never been given the chance to prove himself...he's a quality player in my mind...he played well before his red card and should start ahead of santa cruz...we need some explanation from SK for sure
DommyWalker
The only explanation I can think of is that Kean feels the need to play Santa as he loaned him back in.

Apparently Villa want Kalinic. I will be so F**King *****ed if we sell him to them, we all know he is going to be a Premier League star in the future. Pull your thumb out, Kean!
roversfanben
FN1 I hear what you are saying but Rocque ain't scoring or supplying, we are in a massive relegation fight and SK needs to get his thumb out of his arse and reinstate our top scorer, we can't win games if we don't score
blue_n_white99
We'd have him in a flash, he's probably better than anything we've got at the moment. Unfortunately, and I mean no disrespect, but.... that isn't saying much.
DubaiSpur
He's better than Jermaine Defoe?!
Mikey Delap
I agree blue_n_white99 - something is very strange about the whole thing.
FreidelNo.1
for goodness sake just play him, preferably with Roberts
