Rovers opt out of N'Zonzi appeal

Blackburn Rovers will not be lodging an appeal over the three game ban that goes with a red card that Steven Nzonzi will now have to serve.

The Rovers midfielder was harshly red carded and many felt that Steve Kean and the gang would contest the ban, but they have opted out on the grounds that they do not want to increase the ban through a 'frivolous' appeal.

Under the FA's rules (yes the ones they make up as they go along) you can risk an extra match ban if you appeal when there are no grounds to... even though the player was going for the ball, made clear contact with it and was very hard done by.

So even though Steve N'Zonzi was distraught and felt hard done by the Rovers management team have decided to take the 3 game ban on the chin which will rule the former afro embracer out of games against Birmingham, Everton and Man City.

Daft system isn't it?

He will be missed I am certain but luckily Phil Jones is back!!

It was a tad harsh i thought and I don't think he meant to do it at all but the Ref's are clamping down hard on these types of tackles when both feet leave the ground. Hopefully the next 3 games we've got Givet and Pedersen back and if JJ plays like he did at the Emirates he's a natural replacement for N'Zonzi.

Much worse than Nzonzi's tackle go unpunished week after week, Carragher / Nani being one in question, yet we say nothing, this despite us rapidly running out of midfield players. Old red nose would be like a tiger on a bone if it was one of his. I think our management need to grow a set and support the players in these kind of instances

the red card should not stand...fortunately, phil jones is back in time to take the hit...would be troubling otherwise

Kean should stand up for his players and appeal this, any other club/manager would off, He likes to play the game of being on uncontroversial and just taking everything on the chin, with the "These things happen attitude" He did the same with penalty at Fulham. He needs to grow a pair and show the passion in public that we want from the players, No point sitting on the fence all the time, cos nice guys never get anywhere in such a cut throat business
