Rovers in loan player limbo

Rovers boss Steve Kean fears losing Roque Santa Cruz and Jermaine Jones back to Man City and Schalke 04 respectively as Rovers were unable to agree prices for permanent transfers for both.

Cruz and Jones are both on six month loan spells at Ewood Park and whilst the Blackburn gaffer expects both to be a success he fears losing out due to price inflation if both do the business.

Kean told the Lancashire Telegraph - "We tried to fix a price for Roque and the same for Jermaine because we thought they would do well but we couldn`t fix a price.

"We were confident they would do well but obviously if they do really well now then the price becomes too much.

"We tried to get a price fixed but the parent club wouldn`t allow that and we just have to get on with it."

Santa Cruz is reportedly very keen to move back to Rovers permanently as he considers the place a sort of 'second home' where as it is not known what Jones's thoughts are a more extended Rovers stay.

But without an option to first it could be an uphill battle if other teams want in.

Kean continued - "We don`t have any option, we tried to fix a price so we could go to the owners and say if things go really well he is going to cost x amount.

"At the end of the season now I think they go back to their clubs and hopefully we have made a good impression and they want to come back to the club in whatever capacity.

"Whether it is another loan or if we can do a deal with their clubs and bring them back permanently we will have to wait to see."

The question is will either do well enough to merit a longer stay?

IMO I don't think Santa Cruz will do anything specail for us, he gets injured far to often but Jones I can see settling in the premier league and when he's back to full fitness he'll be one of our best players by far.

I agree we Tubzz , We talk to much, Show us the MONEY, Regardless of the impact Jones or Cruz may or may not have, we should of been signing players who we had a real thhought of being able to sign. the team has slowly started to drop down the table under EGGHEAD and with it goes extra prize money for every rung of the ladder we drop, Pure inexperience IMO. Sod loaning players, go and buy some players we can call our own

No pleasing some people. If they didn't tell us this people would be up in arms and now that Kean is being honest and keeping us informed people moan. If you're willing to pay 2 or 3 times too much for players in January thats great but there are obvious reasons as to why Jones and Cruz were loaned to us instead of buying other over inflated reputable players...

I don't understand why Kean has commented on this - it doesn't seem to serve any purpose. No deal has been confirmed, no prce for a perm. deal has been sorted - so what? They're both on loan, we should be seeing how they do and deciding if they will be good enough for rovers - end of. Whether we have sorted a deal or not it doesn't matter.

I tend to agree with you FN1, there doesn't seem to be any point in making comment on this now as it'll not alter anything now will it. I don't think either will sign and I'm not sure that they'll be what Venkys are targeting anyway??
