Superman set for new deal

Rovers hot up and comer Phil 'Superman' Jones has landed himself a new five year deal to fend off interest from the vultures circling.

Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs have all been credited with an interest in the teenager but Jones looks set to stay put at the club that nutured him in the academy.

The Daily Mirror is reporting - 'Blackburn have persuaded England under-21 star Phil Jones to sign a bumper five-year deal in a bid to kill off interest from Chelsea and Arsenal.

Jones, 18, has signed a new contract extension nine months after last committing his future to Rovers.

The highly-rated midfielder was the subject of a failed £8million bid from Chelsea last month and has also been on the radar of Arsene Wenger since his emergence at Ewood Park.

But Rovers owners Venky`s have convinced Jones to sign a deal that will land him a pay rise worth around £30,000 a week.'

Flipping heck, they don't half make it sound like they held him at gun point to sign a new deal?! Maybe, just maybe he wanted to?!

At the most it shows the other teams we are serious about hanging on to our prized possessions.

Or maybe we are doing an "Andy Carrol" and therefore increasing his value to around £30 Million?

Hopefully we'll keep him because he wants to stay rather than having to sell him to make a load of profit.

Getting players on long term contracts, so we will have a strong team in the Championship!
