'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Hoilett contract can wait reckons the boss

Steve Kean has clarified that flying winger/jet aeroplane Junior Hoilett will not be offered a new deal just yet despite only having 18 months to go on his current one.

Hoilett has been Rovers best player since breaking into the side under Kean but our manager doesn't see the panic in discussing a new deal just yet.

Kean spoke to Sky Sports and said - 'We will progress his development and continue to give him match exposure but we probably won't upset him at the moment by starting to talk about a new contract in case that affects his good form'

'We know he is playing well and hopefully he feels he is a big part of the club going forward.

'At the appropriate time we will sit down and discuss an extension of his contract.'

The lad himself has admitted that he is happy with how things are and that he is just pleased to be in the first team and being given license to express himself.

Hoilett chipped in - 'When you are in the team week in, week out, you are happy but you have to stay focused'

'The manager put me in a different role and gave me the confidence to express myself and I am delighted by that.

'Everything is going in the right direction.'

So happy days then?

I can see a proper attempt at this getting sorted in the summer!

Cautious days one would think Mikey, Come the summer window it will be 12 months left on his contract and if he has a top end to the season, we may be subject to bids from bigger clubs which may just turn the youngsters head. Rovers can't risk losing him for peanuts and should improve his deal now, as i'm sure he will be one of the lowest paid at the club at present

he must of been a priority more than jason roberts?!!!

Strange decision here, a promising winger with only 12 months left on his contract, not being offered a long term deal to tie him down doesn't make sense. Even if he gets an offer from a bigger club, we need to make sure we don't lose him for peanuts.

He said in today's LET that he wants to stay beyond his current contract. Kean probably knows this, so stop worrying!

aside from his skills and pace, his body strength has really impressed me in the past few weeks

3 month ago I would of said he aint done anything to warrant a new deal as he had been too hit and miss, But since being given the free role he has blossomed and he needs that new contract like yesterday
