Samba opens talks with Rovers over new deal

Rovers captain Chris Samba will have a new contract offer from the club in writing in the next 24 hours as Rovers strive to keep hold of an integral part of the defence.

Samba has been linked with a move elsewhere (namely Villa and Arsenal) but since a very negative interview against Venky's over Christmas talk of him staying at the club he has served for 4 years has been more positive.

And Kean is certainly, er, keen.

Steve Kean kept it short and sweet on Sky Sports - 'We have opened talks with Chris and had a really good chat with him.

'We hope to get something to him in writing within the next 24 hours so that he can commit his future to the club.'

Promising.

Sounds like we could get an end result to this in due course...

This could be the best news we have heard all season. I expected to lose Samba during this window, if we manage to sign him up for longer and keep him in his solid partnership with Nelsen, we will have a great spine to our team.

Sky Sports have just confirmed Nelsen has signed a 2 year extension which is great. hopefully Samba signs up as well.

i guess nelsen has a huge role to play int this if samba really ends up staying. this could prove to be the most important signing in the transfer window.

It appears to be happening a little too much now players throwing their toys out the pram and being rewarded with a new contract, i.e Rooney, Tevez and now Samba. We all want Samba to stay but should we really be offering big pay rises, He needs to stay for the right reasons and not for cash!!!

Tie Samba to a long term deal is vital, Nelsen is not getting any younger. Phil Jones and Samba will be a great defensive pair for the future.

I agree with Glen9, players chucking their toys out of the pram should not be rewarded, I don't care how good they are. If he wants to captain and play for Rovers....great, if he doesn't history is littered with many who thought the grass was greener elsewhere, Roque, Bentley, Warnock recently

Come on big Chris sign on the dotted line! You know you want to!
