Salgado wants one more year

Salgado wants one more year

After staying ten years at Real Madrid you would have thought a transfer to Blackburn would be something of a come down but after two years here it appears Michel Salgado is keen for another.

The Spaniard's current contract runs out in the summer but he has expressed a desire to remain at Rovers and sign an extension that would take him past the age of 37.

Salgado was something of a slow starter as his Rovers career didn't kick into gear straight off the bat but after a shaky start has been a model of consistency and a great example to the other players... he is even something of an ambassador for the club as well.

Want to hear more from someone much more interesting than myself? Thought so, well I'm not one to disappoint -

Salgado explained to Sky Sports News - 'I have to thank Sam, he was one of the main reasons I came to England and signed here.

'I am enjoying the Premier League and enjoying Blackburn. It's about a new manager, new owners and the fans.

'But if it's about the lifestyle, enjoying the Premier League and enjoying Blackburn, then I am really happy here.

'In the Premier League it's very physical. I am feeling fit and I can recover and still enjoy it.

'One of the main reasons I'd like to stay and have one more year is because we have a little more chance to do something big.'

Kean, Venkys, you are up lads...

Hope he can hack it for another year. As you say, he was a slow starter but now it is great to watch him. Like a little terrier, he never gives up and is an example to the younger guys of how to behave. Obviously struggles against pace but his quality shows.

Definition of a true professional. Easy to see why he was at Real Madrid for so long winning titles and being part of the Galactico's. "Michel Salgado believes there is no bigger game in the world than Barcelona v Real Madrid - but the veteran right back insists real men play in England." He has his head screwed on aswell, i think a future manager if he wanted to be.

Still works his socks off every match, never afraid of a challenge, extremely experienced and a model of respectability. It would be an insult not to extend his contract after what he's given back to our club.

Took a while to settle, but has been top drawer over the last 12 months and hope he signs on for another deal as he has certainly looked after himself physically. Got plenty to offer and would be nice to grrom him for some sort of coaching role
