'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Former hero heading back to Ewood?

The latest transfer target to be linked with a move back to the club is actually a former Rover.

No not Santa Cruz or David Bentley but Stephen Warnock, currently of Aston Villa.

With Gerard Houllier in charge of Aston Villa Warnock has been one of the names mooted for a move and Rovers are looking to strengthen in that area... hey presto, the glove fits!

Aston Villa actually owe the Rovers £2 million from the transfer that took Warny to Villa Park 18 months ago so that could factor into the deal.

Goal.com are reporting - 'Warnock was said to be interesting Tottenham over the summer but a return to a club where he found success would appeal to the defender and would appear to put Rovers in the driving seat.

Villa are looking to reshuffle their options after the arrival of Gerard Houllier and many players who were first choice under Martin O`Neill such as Warnock and Richard Dunne could be facing the chop.

Blackburn are also in a rebuilding stage after the departure of Sam Allardyce, and new boss Steve Kean has identified Warnock as the perfect player to begin his transfer policy at Ewood Park as he looks to stamp his authority on his new side.'

edit: for £8 million not 18 :D

He had a good spell overall for us but I wasn't too bothered when he left to be honest. He had a few bad games early that season just before he went. If they want to chuck him back and forget the £2m they owe us then fair enough.
ITSALLROVER
very good player who did well for us. i don't remember him leaving with any bad blood, so i would welcome him back gladly, particularly with our need for a LB

apparently venkys have offered ronaldinho 6.2mil a year so it looks like venkys are doing the buying and selling and not steve kean
floody
strange just about every former player is linked back to the club. wonder how likely that would be.

I meant to say 18 months ago my bad!!! ha ha. I think we could do a lot worse personally!!!

A good player who seems not to have done as well at Villa which is surprising. But he'd be welcomed back. I'd have Bentley and Santa back too!

Didnt play yesterday, could of been injured suspended don't know, but he can play midfield were he was arguably at his best in a rovers shirt, be a good move at that price

Yes please. He would make a sound and reassuringly sensible first purchase under Kean if that is how it worked out.

good signing r rite would still say be fore buy defenders or even midfielders we still need strickers we really dont no wats the story wit venkeys money so dont be goin over board

With Givet homesick and out of form, Olsson better suited playing on the wings, Chimbonda set to be released, Warnock will be a bargain buy, if we can get him for 2m. I'll welcome Bentley and Santa Cruz back with both arms and legs...

Does anyone know if this is just rumour or fact?

This would be a good signing and by the looks of things it could get even more interesting over the next few days !! bring it on !
