England To Call On Former Rover??

Former Blackburn Rovers loan player Danny Simpson is understood to be on the verge of receiving a surprised International call up for England for the friendly against France.

Simpson didn't really have the best of times when he was on loan with Rovers from Manchester United and returned to Old Trafford with his tail between his legs and the rave reviews about him and how bright his future would be in doubt. However, he then went on loan to Newcastle United when they were in the Championship and helped them gain promotion back to the Premier League eventually joining them for a bargain price.

The youngster hasn't long returned from a long-term injury, however, it's understood that his form has impressed Fabio Capello and he could be tempted to draft the right-back into the next squad as Glen Johnson has been struggling with injuries and hasn't really had any competition, which could not come from an unlikely source?? A call up for a Newcastle player is expected, however, this would be Andy Carroll and if Simpson made it two this would be surprising.

Personally if someone had told me when he was on loan at Ewood Park that he could play for England at any level other than Under-21 I wouldn't have believed them and until it actually happens I still don't think that I will but best of luck to the dude if Fabio does receive this International call up.

Crackers.. If he is going to call anyone up to replace Johnson, it has to be Richards from city..

I haven't really followed the lad's progress but he was pants when we had him. Definitely good enough for England then...lol

Just seen the team for tonight, no less than 6 defenders playing if you include Jones. Can't see much attacking going on.

Right back is England's weakest position but this is still taking the *****. Simpson is terrible at defending
