You've Let Yourself Down Brown

I personally feel that Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper Jason Brown has really let himself down over the past few days with his public comments that he's been making.

I know that this is something that's already been covered by the superb Editor that Vital Blackburn has (Mr Mikey), however, it's something that's been on my mind quite a lot so I hope you don't mind taking a little time to hear my own thoughts on this.

Brown came to Ewood Park with a good reputation and was always going to be a good backup to Brad Friedel, however, a backup was all he was ever going to be to the American goalkeeper. As Friedel was at the veteran stage if Brown hung tight he had a chance of becoming his successor. The Welshman's only real chance of becoming the number one at Ewood was for Bradder's to leave and when this happened he would've thought this was his big chance, however, unfortunately for him Paul Robinson was brought in and his brilliance left Browny in an equally difficult position as Robinson is one of the best goalkeepers that England has (it's England's loss and Rovers' gain that he's no longer playing International football).

I can understand the Welsh International's frustration at not really ever getting a chance with Rovers and think he's been unlucky as he's usually performed when he's been called upon, however, if you have a better option available they'll usually be the one that plays, even if it's not entirely fair. Fair doesn't really come into many walks of life though really does it??

Personally I don't think that Brown's really had a Rovers future for sometime now (I think that Frank Fielding is our future after Robbo) and I'm surprised that he'd remained with the club as long as he has, however, what he's got to remember is he's only on loan with Leeds United and only with the Championship side because of injury to the other goalkeepers they have and would almost certainly be second choice (at best) when Kasper Schmeichel returns so that old adage that you've got to beware not to bite the hand that feeds you (as Rovers do as we pay his wages!!) is something Browny should've been more mindful of!!

If Leeds decide not to sign Brown then the goalkeeper could be left in a difficult position as other clubs that might have been interested in him might change their mind because of his outspoken (even if they're honest) views and think twice about signing him. Like my title says I think that Browny has let himself down.

I can fully understand his frustration though, as you said when ever he's come into the squad he has been as solid as you like, what i really feel sorry for him though is his height, if he was an 'average' keeper build 6ft 3 - 6ft 6 with his ability he's be one of the better keepers in the league i think.

When Big Brad left, it was Brown's best chance to break into the 1st team. But unfortunately, Ince immediately splash the cash on Paul Robinson and Mark Bunn. Ince certainly didn't rate Brown in the 1st place, as Robinson was not convincing at all in his debut Rovers season under Ince. Had Mark Hughes still in charge at Rovers, Brown might be Rovers Number One now.

I can understand the frustration he's got but he should've sorted this with the managers over the years, instead of throwing a paddy about it now. He needs a permanent transfer to a championship side to get first team experience otherwise he's no chance of being a first choice at any perm club.
