Nelsen happy to hand over captaincy

Old Rovers captain Ryan Nelsen that now was as good a time as any to hand over the captains armband to someone new.

The captaincy travelled in a lateral fashion when it was transferred over to his defensive partner Chris Samba in the pre-season.

But Nelsen has played it down and stressed he still has captaincy duties if no longer on match days.

Ryan spoke to the Lancashire Telegraph - "It`s no big deal, I am the club captain but no longer the captain on the park. Chris is an incredible player and at 26 it was the right time to do it (hand him the captaincy).

"I had five and a half years as captain.

"My new role as club captain is a bit like being on a board when they have an old guy who they don't want to get rid of so they find him a new job."

Don't be too harsh on yourself Nelly!!!

Good too see the spirits aren't too down!! ha ha. I personally feel it is a good combo having the two of them share duties...

Doesn't matter if he doesn't have the armband on he's still a leader on the pitch, no doubt he'll still be telling the younger players how to act/react to situations and taking every loss just as personally before, just as Samba will and Dunn and Emerton.. all the lads who've been around in the prem long enough.
