Rovers clear out but nobody makes entrance

On a very disappointing day for Blackburn Rovers there was zero incomings at the club as Big Sam (or more likely the board) decided to crack on with what we have at the club and decided against making a new signing.

Hundreds of strikers have been linked with Blackburn this transfer window but when the clock struck 6 there was no sign of anybody arriving at the door.

The only business conducted was geared towards reducing the wage bill at Ewood Park and if there is a saving grace then it looks like that has been done.

Lars Jacobsen's move to West Ham, initially on loan with the option to make the deal permanent, is just waiting to be ratified by the Premier League as Rovers have trimmed the number of potential right backs at the club from four to three.

Maceo Rigters, he of the massive bum and hiding capabilities, has moved to Willem II on loan and Zurab has also completed a loan happy day by moving to Reading.

But the talking point will be the lack of a striker signing and the fact that a certain large striker with a dodgy radar in Jason Roberts is still at the club.

Shame we didn't get anybody in?! What were they playing at?!

Yeah, considering what Sam has seen and we have all seen in the opening three games, this could be a difficult few months. We have played really well but not converted chances, I fear this will haunt us all season.

Too much negativity - the squad is improved on last season and we have seen revitalised performances from MGP and Diouf. Niko is starting with a decent pre-season behind him so does not have the same excuses as last season and Diouf2 has begun in great style.

I like your optimism kevin!!!

Lets not play down the fact that when this transfer window opened on July 1st our priority was the signing of a striker and that has'nt happened. I'm disgusted to be honest and inclined to agree with Roversman in that we could be in big big trouble by the time we have a chance to strengthen the squad in January!!

Surely we have signed TWO strikers - Diouf2 and Benjani. Diouf2 is off to a great start and Sam has had a long look at Benjani before giving him a contract. Niko has looked sharp so far and we have JR who will do his usual job of rattling opposition defences (if not the back of the net). We were never going to get a super-striker with the minimal funds we had available so all credit to Sam for sorting the striker situation (Diouf2 for di Santo and Benjani for Benni looks like solid improvement to me) without wasting precious cash.

We struggled so badly for goals that it nearly undermined our whole season last time out. I just cant believe that the whole summer has gone and so little has been done about it. I know we had little funds but.. Benjani and Diouf to solve that problem???? Kalinic is gonna have to have a good season for us or we're in trouble!!
spinaker
agree with Kevin here... we have brought in two strikers and Diouf has already done great things. also having J Rob on the books is a good thing- we know he can play a role and he actually finished last year pretty strong. We have a good young squad that will keep improving. wheres the negatives?
retroflair31
TBF though guys we have played really well in the opening three games. The amount of points accrued is not relative to what we deserve. I am sure we will be fine...
Mikey Delap
Definitely in a better shape in the striking department than this time last, but is that saying much really?

Hey Kev, Retro.. Benjani is'nt even fit like. He's said as much this morning on SSN. What was the point in signing him? Everybody wanted rid of J-Rob.. so why is it a good thing all of a sudden having him on the books? He aint gonna get us the goals we need! Basically your putting your faith in two young inexperienced frontmen in Kalinic & Diouf.. which tbf is a bit over-optimistic. I'm not trying to be negative because we're only 3 games in and the performances so far have been encouraging.. I'm just not convinced we have enough quality up front.. and it could put us in trouble.
spinaker
Fair point spin... but lets look at the squad Robbo (good) Salgado Samba Nelsen Givet (all good) Diouf, Dunn, Jones, N'Zonzi, Gamst, Emerton (all good and improved) Kalinic (scored first game) Diouf (Scored in last game and 3 in the cup) Roberts (5 goals from 15 starts last year) Benjani (4th choice, better than nothing) So really there is nothing to be negative about. Yes, we would all like a proven striker... but bugger it, our young squad can only improve after an impressive showing last year.
