Benjani set for Rovers

Benjani should be a a Blackburn Rovers in the next 24 hours.

Big Sam Allardyce has decided to start negotiations with the Zimbabwean after seeing enough of him at Brockhall to convince him he is worth a go.

Benjani would cost nothing and has let it be known he will take a massive pay cut from his Man City days to secure a future in the Premier League.

John Williams and Allardyce have been busy bees as they also look to bring in one more attacker before the window closes but the Rovers chairman has warned other clubs they will not over pay for anybody.

This is after a couple of recent bids for unnamed strikers have proved fruitless.

Williams spoke to the Lancashire Telegraph and said - "We have made a couple of offers but the clubs` valuations for these players are way above what we have offered. The valuations are substantially above what we are prepared to pay."

This doesn't bother me like I think it will some - if he comes I am happy for him to be here and he will score the odd goal.

Im happy with him, big physical presence so defenders are gonna hate playing against him, especially him, Samba, the Zonz and Admiral Nelson attacking corners gonna be even more scary!

If people think about it logically, the deal makes sense. Let's just say (and hope) that we bring in Popov and Avdic, and sell Roberts. That would leave us with Kalinic, Popov and Baby Diouf who are all 22, and Avdic who is 21. That gives us excellent prospects for the future, as well as 4 good strikers. But it would leave us with no experience, and every team needs experienced players. Whilst Benjani may not be as good as the others, he is experienced and could prove to be invaluable when we are going through rough patches and the younger players need somebody who has been there to guide them through it.

Plus, I still maintain that Benji is a decent player. He will probably contribute about 5-6 goals this season, which is the same as Roberts. But he has more to his game than JR, he is very hard working and will create more goals than he scores.

At the end of the day, we need more options up front and a freebie will do for me. He has scored in the prem in the past and didn't do too bad at Pompey. Can't knock him 'til we try him :)

better then noone i guess!

Better than Roberts I would suspect as well...

Would rather keep JR..

I definitely think he will score more goals per appearances than JR did last season.

Great score for a freebie, Let's give him a chance and see if BS can work some wonders and get him firing in the goals.. :) If not it's not going to be overly costly so all in all it's a good move, But JR has to go as we now have a slightly better version at a cheaper price! lol :)

Benjani? Might as well keep Jason prolific Roberts.
