Rovers are in for Greening

The Daily Mirror are under the impression that Rovers are on the cusp of securing the services of Jonathan Greening.

Greening has played for Man United, West Brom and Fulham but since his very successful stint in the Midlands his move to West London has not what was expected.

Greening has been told by new Fulham boss Mark Hughes that he is 'surplus to requirements' in true Championship Manager style and Allardyce has seemingly moved quickly to add to his Rovers squad.

I can see the attraction - Greening is versatile and before his move to Fulham was considered a very handy player.

If this happens expect the Sam Allardyce rescues players career headlines to make an appearance all over the UK.

Kind of a strange one this as he is hardly a spring chicken but he is a good player IMO.

I am not a huge fan of Greening. But I have no problem with us getting him on a season long loan. I would much prefer Matty Taylor from Bolton, and for a reported £2 million, he would be a bargain. I wanted us to buy him when Pompey sold him to Bolton, so I hope we do so this time.

30 or 31 i think, do we need yet another midfielder? Strikers only need apply!
mutts nutts
He's 31. I was saying the same thing to my dad the other day (about not needing more midfielders) but I suppose Dunny will miss half the season again, and Grella will probably miss most of it. So we do need cover.
roversfanben
With Jones able to play in defensive midfield do we need Grella as back up with Andrews/The Zonz as well??? We arguably do need more attacking midfielders as we play a 4-3-3 or 4-5-1 so to have a bit of depth there will do us no harm.

Andrews is about as useful as a Dingle in an IQ test though. Is Greening an attacking or defensive midfielder?
roversfanben
Another midfielder? What's going on? Have we found the striker that we been searching all summer?
metalrover
Maybe we will sell Grella? and Greening would be cheaper/have lower wages therefore we can spend more on a striker
marsmanic
If Greening comes, he will only be a loan signing. So we will probably only have to pay his wages, and we may not pay all of his wages. So it's not a bad move really.

roversfanben...funniest analogy of the season so far. "Andrews is about as useful as a Dingle in an IQ test". Back to point, I can't see the reasons behind this deal. I'd rather see someone like marrow or Doran given more of a chance than take Greening on board.

I suppose the point I was trying make was we can afford to sell one DM can't we!?

I think we should start calling you "DP Mikey" and I don't mean DP in a dirty way. I mean "Double Post" ;)
roversfanben
I'll take either way mate apparently if you listen to Bom and Sas!!! lol

Lets put it this way.. Greening or Teymorinan..... Greening every time... Loan is good.. hes a good player.. but once Syed takes over we will have better..
rover23
He's just Keith Andrews with long hair... Don't do it! He's been relegated more times than soft mick: twice with the Boro and countless times with West Brom. That's even more than Ashley Ward when we bought him, and we all remember the success story he was at Ewood...

Not too excited about this one, haven't we got enough midfielders already?? i suppose if we offload Grella before he takes another 3-4 months off with injuries before January. Or maybe Andrews??
ITSALLROVER
Greening is awful and has always been over rated, he has lived on the reputation that he came throuygh the ranks of United but in fairness so have many other flops, Not worth the wages and sadly a poor signing
glen9mullan
Can we please call him Evergreening? :D
