Is the chairman TOO tight?

Now normally im not one for criticising the board or the chairman, I normally leave that to Vinjay...

But recent reports suggest that Salgado did manage to persuade both Guti and Raul to join Blackburn Rovers, but the move was prevented by the board / chairman.

Salgado spoke to Guti last month and revealed to the Lancashire Telegraph : 'He wanted to come, he was waiting for us.'

But now Raul is off to the Bundesliga and Guti may be off to Besiktas, Salgado added (this time in the Sun) : 'I've tried to get him to join but don't know if the chairman is too tight.'

I don't personally think he means John Williams here, but the board as a whole.

In my opinion I think we have missed out on two massive stars, I think if we are to move on this season, we really need this takeover to be settled.

Compared with our Chairman, I would say he was like Scrooge - a Man City fan

I think we are all scrooge compared to him!!!!

It's really disappointing to know that Guti and Raul showed that they were keen to come but couldn't due to cash flow. On the other hand we can't spend money that isn't there (without consequence further down the line). Being sensibly run can be frustrating but I prefer being tight with cash than possibly going bust.

I have no doubt at all that if John Williams could spare the cash he would have stumped up. If you have ever talked to him you would know that he channels every penny the can to the manager to spend. Until we have a new owner his hands are tied. This in no way reflects the tremendous amount of money that the Walker trust have already invested in this club. Who else would invest millions upon millions with little prospect of a return?

It breaks me a little bit that there is a sentiment that we could have got Guti AND Raul at Ewood this summer and we aren't going to get either because of money. I agree that I don't want to see the club spending what we haven't got and I back the board but that doesn't stop me from feeling like we have missed out on something massive here!

Helloooooo...long time no post guys...glad to see the sensible Rovers fans still post on this site because some of the half wits on the LET really get me down. It is a shame that Raul and Guti are not likely to grace Ewood next year but i do not want to get in to debt for even these top players. A really bad season would be a catastrophe for a club like ours with a small fan base and no way to make up the difference....i thought that the bits on sky were interesting today...the top five spending clubs in Premiership history are Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham....this says everything about what money does for a club...I for one hope that the new backing comes soon as i cannot see how we can continue to be the lowest spending team in the division and yet remain in the league....would hate a Wimbledon type scenario. I genuinely believe that we would have been relegated but for the chairman and Sam Allardyce.

i'll echo Mani "we would have been relegated but for the chairman"... its frustrating but we must be fiscally responsible. Overspending is so easy and the consequences it brings are real. I hope we find new backing, but until we do there simply is no other option but to be conservative
