'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Rigters wants a Blue and White future

Rovers striker Maceo Rigters (yes he is still alive and well) wants to force a new future for himself after failing to adapt to life in the Premier League so far.

Maceo was signed with much fanfare after winning the golden boot in Euro under 21's back in 2007 but has failed to make even the slightest impression in England, even being considered for a switch to Kilmarnock last season.

But Rigters is convinced that with Rovers so far being a big fat flop trying to sign fire power in the transfer market this summer that he can be an option at the club.

Maceo, spoke to the Lancashire Telegraph and said - "Last year I didn`t play in the games before the season, now I am there and I scored a goal.

'I hope my chances are bigger but we`ll see what happens.

'I`ve no idea. I`ll just do my best in pre-season, get fit and see what happens.

"I don`t know what will happen. We haven`t talked about it.

'I`m just thinking about getting fit and see what happens then.

'But I know I can play football and I know I can score goals here.

'I`m just going to keep on working.

"I`ve scored a lot of goals in the reserves but I have to see where I`m going to start playing football.

'I hope it`s at Blackburn because I like the club and I really want to play in the Premier League."

With only Niko and J-Rob at the club that can be labelled as an out and out striker, Allardyce currently considers Rigters as his third choice striker.

Rigters has played in all of the friendlies that Rovers have played so far and even bagged a goal against Southport at the weekend.

The Dutchman is keen to grab his chance.

Rigters continued - "It`s always an opportunity and I can do well if I can get a chance.

'I don`t look at other strikers, I look at myself. If I can do well, let`s see what happens.

"Maybe I`ll get a couple of chances or I`ll go on loan.

'Of course scoring is always important for a striker.

'I got a goal at Southport and in my next game I hope to score again.

"I`m not a quitter. I`m still trying and we`ll see what happens.

'I don`t know. I`ll just do my best and see what happens.

'I haven`t talked to the gaffer yet but he selected me."

With the lack of options available it is fair to say we are going to see Maceo Rigters make the most of his last chance saloon.

What do we reckon? Any chance?
Mikey Delap
I'd love him to turn into a goal scoring machine but I don't see it happening. I'd be happy if he could at least contribute though. 10 goals on top of the other 2 (hopefully 3) strikers would be a success for me. Hoewever, for some reason since coming to England he just hasn't shone despite showing great potential. Maybe Sam has the key to unlock it?

He seems like quite a stocky lad.... he could be useful???
Mikey Delap
I thought he looked like a good signing at the time but it hasn't worked out for him. Not really shone when he was out on loan either. Bound to be flogged or loaned out again as Big Sam's still looking for a goal getter.

It's up to him to prove that he can deliver. It reminds me of the situation with Matty Derbyshire - everybody was willing him to do well but, at the end of the day, he just did not have what it takes.

TBF at least the Derbs could hit the onion bag if need be!!!

Derbs was also given the chance though Delap, Righters hasnt had his chance, and if he gets it, he must take it

What does stocky means? Delap. The guy seems happy to be at the club and want to give it a chance - nice actually....cheers
