Rovers have a crack at Nugent

Blackburn Rovers manager Sam Allardyce could be set to move for Portsmouth striker David Nugent.

Rovers have been linked in the summer with two on loan Pompey strikers from last season but the one that seems to be in the frame is a man that plays for Pompey but was out on loan elsewhere in 2009/10 - keep up!

The Sunday Mirror is the most vocal claiming the Rovers boss will take a risk on the Portsmouth striker who has struggled in the Premier League ever since his move to the South Coast in 2007.

Nugent at the time cost £6 million when bought in white hot form from Lancashire Preston North End by financially astute Portsmouth but wouldn't cost anywhere that much now.

Rumour has it Pompey want £3 million but Rovers boss Sam Allardyce believes that they would actually far less such is the need for funds down in Hampshire.

But the main question is how will the Blackburn faithful react to a player who spent the whole of last season on loan at Burnley?

* In other news, reported Rovers target Kris Boyd is set for a move to Middlesbrough as Big Sam seems to have let this one slide.

I am not amazingly bothered about missing out on Boyd, if he is going to Boro (no disrespect) then it shows that no EPL clubs are hot on his heels.

Not a fan of this at all....Please please please don't happen! 9 goals in his last 64 appearances...I know a lot were from the bench but this guy makes J-Rob look like Rooney in comparison.
fransavarese
J-Rob is better than Rooney Fran!! ;)

dont want this ex-dingle scum.. no way no way no way!

The fact that he was on çoan at Bumley is of no interest to me but his lack of goals is. Having said that if Sam fancies him then that is good enough for me. Sam's signings have been excellent overall and he knows a lot more than any of us who might slot in best to Rovers team and system. Also - he is young, from the area, and English. He might just turn out to be another nargain buy if we get him for 1.5 / 2m. He cannot demand top wages after all!

All good points kevin!!! For that sort of money I am sure he could turn up well...
Mikey Delap
no way do i want him here.. if he cant shine out of a poor dingle and pompy side he is not good enough for us.. he is an arrogant **** dont want that **** at ewood.. id rather use Rigters..
rover23
Sign him, sign him, he is a great player just what you need ;-)

Not too happy about this unless the fee is ridiculously low like £1 million ish and we also buy a proven goalscorer, afterall i thought that was why we haven't bought anybody yet!!
ITSALLROVER
If he's available for less than 2M, i believe Sam will be interested in taking him to Rovers. He won't be on massive wages, and Sam has a good record of rescuing star players' careers.
metalrover
erm, look at his goal ratio for england! for every game he plays he scores!....he was well good at preston and to be fair he did alright at burnley.
LHrover
plus he doesnt like burnley and called them a 'bad' team on several occasions
LHrover
Hmm still not convinced LH. 1 goal in 5 games @ scumville. less than 1 in 10 @ portsmouth. Yes he scored goals in the chumpionship but as the last 2 seasons of his have shown...the PL is a step too far for Nugent...I also think there is an attitude problem. Why else has he had so few starts in 2 seasons with no major (I think) injuries.
fransavarese
Maybe he just hasn't had the right supply?!
