Selling Emerton would be a mistake

When the news broke I wasa little puzzled.

At some point last week it came to light that through one means or another, Brett Emerton might be sold by Blackburn to fund further summer purchases.

The rumour was the Sam Allardyce had a list of 6-8 players that he would consider selling to raise capital to strengthen his summer 'war chest'. (Yes, I know, hardly much of a war chest so far is it?!)

On that list was apparently the name of Brett Emerton.

To me, out of all the other names that were speculated to be up for the chop, Brett's seemed to provoke empathy from yours truly.

Vince Grella I can live with, he is always injured and £2 million is screaming gifthorse. mouth.

Keith Andrews and Zurab Khizanishvilli is also fair cop as far as I can see - both are a credit to the team on their day, but not indispensible for those of us who enjoy our Championship Manager.

But even to consider selling Emo would be a big mistake as far as I can see.

Even during the Australian national sides humbling last night, Emerton was more or less the only one providing energy and drive unconditionally.

Add into this that Emerton is a long standing and committed Rover, one who the fans connect with and provides versatility that no-one else in the Blue and White can match.

I know that the last season has seen Emo pick up little niggles and his involvement has been nowhere near the level he would have liked... but that is life sometimes.

Keep the duracell bunny in the Rovers set up, he may be the wrong side of 30 now but he is a gem.

As an Aussie I have watched plenty of Emerton and grella, and I would say, keep hold of Emerton, he has shown playing for Australia he is capable of playing at this level. He was probably our only decent player against Germany and that was the first game he has played since he was injured. As for Grella sell him, he is utter *****e, not capable of playing in the EPL, all he does is hack and get sent off and injuries.

Good call rob, I agree completely.

If the takeover happens we should sell Diouf and keep Emerton IMO!
Tombo1984
i really doubt Emo would be sold

Emerton was the shining light in what was a disgraceful performance, he had a superb game, especially after missing all our warm up matches....must not be sold

emerton was a monster on the pitch

I agree sas he had an absolute cracker considering he has not played any warm ups for us!! And without a doubt was our best player on the park!! Would be a ridiculous decision to sell such a versatile and outstanding all round player.

As an outsider, I must say that he is a player that always gives his all. Every team needs players like him in them.
SFC Forever
would rather see grella or Andrews leave first. Emo is a good utility man.

I too was surprised by this and hope that emerton stays. That being said, we really need to shift someone so we can complete the Guti deal!
