Emerton and Grella Called into World Cup Squad

As expected, Blackburn Rovers' Aussie Pair Brett Emerton and Vincenzo Grella have been named in the initial 31 man Australian Squad for the 2010 South African World Cup.

Best of luck to the two as they hope to assist in steering the Australian Team past a tricky group stage consisting of Germany, Serbia and Ghana...

The 31 man squad will be trimmed down to a playing squad of 23 players, plus 4 youth players who will tour and train with the team...

The Squad is made up of

Michael Beachamp, Marco Bresciano, Tim Cahill, Nick Carle, David Carney, Scott Chipperfield, Jason Culina, BRETT EMERTON, Adam Federici, Eugene Galekovic, Richard Garcia, VINCENZO GRELLA, James Holland, Brett Holman, Mile Jedinak, Brad Jones, Joshua Kennedy, Harry Kewell, Shane Lowry, Scott McDonald, Mark Milligan, Craig Moore, Lucas Neill, Jade North, Thomas Oar, Nikita Rukavytsya, Mark Schwarzer, Carl Valeri, Dario Vidosic, Luke Wilkshire, Rhys Williams

As far as i'm concerned, its great. Tommy Oar is in (18 year old left sided player showing plenty of class) and that not so good Colosimo isn't. All good from my end, although the Sas may disagree

Good squad, happy rukavytska and Scott mcdonald got a spot mile sterjovski is probably the only big name missing
sasman
is lucas neil still captain? I hope emo and grella do well, the socceroos have a good side this year :)
LHrover
Isn't Harry Kewell the captain?
Mikey Delap
Exciting to see how then it goes. Lars Jacobsen is by the way in the Danish squad of 27 players, but he is almost sure to be in the squad of 23.....cheers
riisenholt
judas is unfortunately captain lol
sasman
I'd be made up if Grella played 3 consecutive games!!!!! ha ha

If Grella can stay fit he'll make it won't he. That's a superb idea though isn't it taking four youth players to train with the squad!!
Walker
Yeah we've been doing it for a long time, just giving the young fellas a taste of the big time. Grella will definitely start- hell, Verbeek will play him on one leg, he is that good

Happy with the squad too. I like Mcdonald and hopefully he can get fed right cause he can put em away... Just hasnt been able to for us. Would of like to have seen Alex Brosque given a shot, He is very cool under pressure, Will definetely miss Sterjovsky. But for the life of me i dont know how Brett holman is back in the squad-he seems to get very confused and flustered everytime he gets the ball, And have not seen much good out of him.

pim rates holman, for what i reason i really dont know lol....dont forget Rovers had him all but signed a few years ago!
sasman
Ahhh yes well that is true. I forgot about that, Although i hadn't seen much of him back then and i was a little excited to get another Aussie on the pitch, but now that i have seen a fair bit of him playing in the national team he hasn't done much for me to rate him at all. He is a very frustrating player to watch. He is so close..But yet so far. lol
