'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Big Sam wants 39th game!

As a man that is never scared to voice his opinion, it comes as no surprise that Big Sam has thrown his weight (no pun, no seriously) behind a radical idea.

The much gunned down '39th game' idea has been given a full backing by Big Sam as he sees it as a must - something that will protect the Premier League product.

But this is likely to stir up mixed emotions.

Big Sam told The Sun: 'The 39th game is an absolute must. We have to make it work, get over the bureaucracy and look after our product. Every top country in Europe wants what we've got. Italy, Spain and Germany are jealous of us and the UEFA president Michel Platini cannot hide his jealousy. It's so important we stay ahead of everyone else and the 39th game will keep us there. Let's get it back on the agenda.''

One of the major concerns raised two years ago was the imbalance a 39th match could cause to the league, which currently consists of 38 home and away fixtures, but Allardyce insists clubs must see the bigger picture.

He said: 'Seed it, have a draw or whatever, I'm not bothered. Forget about the points and who you have to play, it's one game out of 39. Why do the American NFL come to Wembley? Because they are making loads of money out of it.

'We should all ask ourselves a few questions about what's important. Do we like working in the Premier League? The answer is yes. It's the top league in the world with the best entertainment. Would we like to keep the product safe? Yes. Do we like the money it brings in? Yes. Would we like to protect that? Yes.'

Can of worms being opened here I suspect!!!

forgive my ignorance, but what exactly is the point of an extra game? is it just more revenue?
retroflair31
Pretty much yes, it is to cater to the massive Asian market....

ahh well then, its a tricky one. how do you decide who plays who? it would be good if it was a rivalry round, with all the games that sell well being on the one weekend... but this would be unfair.... i just don't see it happening
retroflair31
could be another game against burnley :D its a way of show casing the premier league, there are fans all across the world, games would be sold out wherever they play them, usa, asia or australia all have lots of fans.
