Roberts fires out warning to Phil Jones

Rovers striker Jason Roberts has had some very kind words to say to young centre back Phil Jones, but also attaches a warning.

Roberts has seen young players burst onto the scene before, only to fall away as a combination of bad advice and too much too young takes its toll.

But along with the other youngsters Rovers have coming through, Roberts is convinced Jonesey can keep a level head and make the grade at Ewood Park.

The Grenadan, speaking to the Lancashire Telegraph said - "I think they have been answering the challenge but if we are talking about them in the next three or four years then they have really done the business and I really hope that is the case.

"Jonesy has been fantastic ever since he has come in. I think everyone wants to see local boys coming through and doing well and he is a good lad who we all like to have around and we are glad to see him doing so well.

"I think a Premier League player though is someone who has played two or more seasons in the Premier. I know players who have played five or six good games and then fell of the scene.

"We want to make sure that is not the case with Jonesy and obviously he has to keep his feet on the ground and make sure he makes the right decisions so he can go on to be a top flight player who has played for us for three or four seasons.

"I see no reason why he can`t do that though. He is a good kid, he has the right people around him and is very level-headed.

'I am delighted for him and the other young boys, I think it is exciting times ahead for them."

Say what you like about Jason, but that is some fairly sound advice right there.

What do we reckon? Jason right to say this? Is Jones as good as we think?

Fair enough really. He is basically telling him to keep his feet on the ground work hard and most importantly STAY AT ROVERS.

as long as JR doesnt teach him to shoot.. were ok..

Maybe Phil Jones will be teaching JR to shoot lol!! JR is right, and is the right kind of role model in many ways for youngsters like Jones to look up to. If he (and others that might come along) follows this advice he'll not go far wrong will he??
