Allardyce: We Won The Game Comfortably

Allardyce: We Won The Game Comfortably

Blackburn Rovers manager Sam Allardyce discusses his thoughts on our victory over Wigan Athletic on Wednesday with Sky Sports.

Allardyce was delighted to pick up an important three points following the 2-1 win over Wigan at Ewood Park after Nikola Kalinic's late winner. The Rovers manager admitted that it was scrappy at times but felt we had more than enough chances to get this very important win that moves us away from the relegation zone.

Allardyce said: "We had numerous chances, scored two goals, and in the end we won the game comfortably.

"At times it was a bit scrappy, but it was a great, battling performance, and another three points.
"

This win makes it back to back wins in the Premier League for only the second time this season and that makes all the difference and has seen us up to around midtable as a result with Big Sam knowing the importance of this too.

He added: "It's the second time we've managed to get back-to-back wins this season, and what a difference it makes in the Premier League.

"It has shot us up to 11th, and we've started 2010 really well, so let's keep it going, with everybody playing their part.

"It's looking good for us. If we can go on a little undefeated run now, starting at West Ham, then we're looking okay.
"

It's now so important for us to keep this run going as we could be dragged back into the relegation fight as quickly as we've moved away from it though so we can't afford to sit back and relax.

Correct! back to back wins is great! but three in a row is better :). we keep up a steady flow of points now and we are home sailing.

A really important win - plus, Niko is getting into his stride, Gamst is looking like a new signing, Basturk to come in and we have got rid of the worm in the apple that was Benni Mc. There is talk of a new striker - all-in-all things are looking good and Sam is winning over his critics - isn't he?

He is starting to, but part of that is because he has listened to the fans somewhat who want a more expanisive style of attacking play. But what we can all acknowledge (I think) is that he was right about Niko.... he's bought hi in slowly and we are starting to see what he can do.

I thought comfortable was a little bit of an exageration but a good soid win and much needed points. I have a suspicion that all the talk about long ball tactics and negative football over the years has hurt BSA and I think (hope) that he has something to prove - as Rovers get into a more comfortable position I believe that he will become more attack minded to rub his critics noses in the dirt. Certainly the football and the passing is getting better - he's beginning to get a team together that actually can and want to play for each other - Hoillet, Ollson, N'Zonzi, MGP, Chimbonda, Dunn and Kallanic. Rovers proved what they are capable of at Villa Park when there was nothing to lose. The trouble is that if Rovers get into the relegation scrap again he'll revert to type and go defensive.

The change in tactics made a huge difference. We controlled the midfield with passing and aggressive tackling. The long ball was not our first choice or our most potent weapon. This was an excellent game to build from. I'm excited to see a run of form.

It was alot more positive from the fact of the personnel on the pitch, lots of attack minded players, and on the night it could have been and perhaps should of been more comfortable, but 3 big points in the bag :-)
