Keith Andrews for Alan Smith swap?

Newcastle United have enqiured about the availability of Keith Andrews as they look to bolster their midfield for their Championship promotion push.

Rather than the answer of 'oh, please good lord take him' they instead received the answer of 'Can we have Alan Smith in exchange'?

The Sunday Mirror primarily ran with the story but a few others have now joined in the fun. It does seem an interesting proposition and it may well be fictional but to me Alan Smith IS an improvement as the tough tackling midfielder role.

Therefore it wouldn't be a bad thing if we were to get hold of him - he doesn't score a lot (at all in fact) but he has been in fine form for the Geordies this season.

As for Keith, I don't think we will find too many crying if he is sold.

Maybe an improvement, but how much of one? I'm not sure this is where our limited transfer activity should be focused. With Reidy managing to somehow perform a miracle aka play 2 games without picking up an 18 month injury perhaps we already have Keith's replacement?

That may be so fran but what about a replacement for our injury prone Aussie Mr Grella who stretches his legs and gets a hamstring or calf strain? Plus if its like for like and no money involved it must be an improvement!!!
Rover_since74
Fair point 74. Guess im hoping Grella gets fit and plays but if he doesn't stay fit I'd rather Alan Smith than Andrews came in for him.

It may only be a slight improvement but it is still an improvement in my eyes!!

maybe smith will play up front?
LHrover
Smith is a defensive midfielder these days I think LH. He hasn't scored a single goal for Newcastle so best to keep him away from our forward line, they are goal shy enough as it is. I'd rather we kept Keith tbh even if it is just to save some poor sod processing the details of this transfer of one *****e hawk for another. We will have nothing to gain from this, granted not much to lose either.
Durks
An improvement perhaps (even if only slight) but Smith's wages would certainly been an "improvement" on our wage bill each month and for that simple reason I'm even less of the opinion it'll happen!!
Walker
Maybe he will take a cut to get a better move for him?

We don't play andrews for goals. His offensive production last season was often a matter of fortuitous circumstance. Trading him for another defensive midfielder is fine in my book. As a defender andrews is weak. I hope Sam and John pull the trigger. A new broom sweeps cleanest.
