West Ham bid £2 million for Benni

Skysports is reporting that West Ham have lodged a £2million bid for Benni McCarthy, more than the £1.25 million than was first thought to have been tendered.

West Ham have a new lease of life in the transfer window as new co-owners David Sullivan and David Gold have come in and promised funds to boss Gianfranco Zola, and they have targeted McCarthy to brighten up their attacking options.

Big Sam has already admitted that if a big came in that was acceptable then McCarthy would be allowed to leave Ewood Park - but the bad news for West Ham is that the £2 million bid is not the £3 million that Rovers have in mind.

Looks like a case of try again Eastenders.

I dont think this will tempt Rovers to sell, who can we buy to replace with £2 million?
Mikey Delap
Half a million less than we paid for him many pies ago
mutts nutts
Beattie is going for 2 million, and so is Beckford? but if benny wants to leave, let him go, now we have niko to smash home the goals!
rover23
3 - 4 million at least! hes a fine player, lets not forget his performance against fulham
LHrover
I don't want him to go but if he does it needs to be for more than this! £3.5m would suffice but we need to find someone else to partner Niko! J-Rob and Niko wouldn't work and Di Santo & Kalinic...maybe but the partnership would need more time to gel than we have available!
fransavarese
But maybe the replacement needs to be the main consideration? £3 million at least I say and then buy someone like Gudjohnsen or a second striker similar to that but not on as higher wages to play off Niko... Niko is the main guy for me now!
Mikey Delap
With Roberts injured and Kalinic and DiSanto not scoring league goals we would be mad to sell Benni especially for this poor amount. I know he's 32 and we won't get much for him, but if another one of our strikers gets injured, or Dunn gets injured again the only person left would be Mikey Delap - and I don't reckon he bag the goals we need - no offence MD!

Seriously though - Beattie and Beckford are not good enough replacements - Beattie doesn't score enough and Beckford has a lously first touch (and attitude) for a player in the Premier League.

If Benni goes will the money be up front?? I wouldn't like to deal with west ham? or is it another case of playing with monoply money on the never never? and finally 2 million isn't enough.
Fellrunner
I will have you know I am worth 10-12 league goals a season FN1 ;)
Mikey Delap
just get rid, who ever we get to replace him has to do a better job hes not scoring so lets get some deals done
scottrover
I thought he was your 'talismanic' striker?
DubaiSpur
The guy is lazy and most of the time he's useless.....his talent is undoubted but his lack of motivation ruins himn....bring back Beattie, yeah he'll never have he ability that Benni has but his desire to win for us will shine through for me....i hate it when players dont fight for the right to play for our club....good riddance
mani13963
its hard to be faithful for benni, for the past few years ive said he'll come up trumpsjust watch, as he does..for like 5 games out of 38.
LHrover
true story, it seems peeps are resigned to him going now then?
Mikey Delap
Can't see the point of selling one 30+ year old striker and then spending good money on another 30+ striker - we need to bring on the young strikers to secure the future - in the meantime there's always Big Chris Samba - Kallanic and Samba - now there's a strike partnership to scare the opposition defences!!
YORK ROVER
Sam won't sell for less than 3.5M, we'll definitely struggle to replace Benni's quality for that amount. 2 league cup goals and some here are getting excited with Kallinic, well, Sam need to start him to play in the league games, and we'll probably see the goals flowing in.
metalrover
Looks more likely that J.Rob is off - with Wolves and Wigan interested...
FreidelNo.1
McCarthy was past it two seasons ago!
merlin
Metal benni has only scored one league goal this season, granted he hasnt played as often as some would like but if he cant be bothered in training to shed the pounds what makes you think he will do it on the pitch? Players should train harder than they expect to play. Benni is a lazy *****e who doesnt care about this club so as soon as West Ham stop messing and offer the right money Benni can ***** off. He has talent but not the application to match it.
