'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Big Sam on Benni, Dunny and the Carling Cup

Big Sam has been talking a lot today (for a mssive change!), talking to the press about the upcoming Carling Cup fixture and also reflecting on the future of two of Rovers leading lights... Benni McCarthy and David Dunn.

Sam has challenged wantaway Benni to earn a future at the club and to start doing it tomorrow night against Aston Villa... but has stressed he will listen to offers for the striker, similar to best mate Jason Roberts.

Allardyce, speaking to Sky Sports said - 'I know and Benni knows why he is not playing as much but that is a confidential matter between the two of us, '

'It really lies in his hands, not mine if he wants to play more.

'If he puts that right he could play a major part here and help us win a cup then go on to the World Cup.

'We want to see him playing to his best every week. He has been frustrated by his lack of playing time. So he wants to leave.

'But that would depend on how much a club is prepared to pay before we would think about letting one of our major scorers go.

'I have had no offers for him and as it is he is a Blackburn player. I know when he goes out on the field, especially at Ewood Park, generally we get his best performances there.'

Big Sam has also challenged key man David Dunn to inspire the Rovers - much like Steven Gerrard does for Liverpool, well used to anyway before he resorted to diving to try and win games!

Allardyce continued - 'Dunny is a big player for us and we have been desperate to get him back.

'To be honest he has been a bigger loss than I expected. Not only he is creative he has also scored six goals.

'Let's hope he can be as big a player for us as Steven Gerrard is for Liverpool.'

Team news also sees Brett Emerton returns to the squad after recovering from a groin injury.

However, El-Hadji Diouf is not eligible after his mind boggingly stupid sending off in the FA Cup after and Mr.Injury Vince Grella is absent with a thigh problem.

Big Sam closed by asking for a repeat of the performance that saw off Villa 2-1 earlier in the season.

The never-shy Rovers boss closed with - 'It was a massive victory, our best result this season, and we will be looking for a repeat performance.

'However, since then Villa have gone from strength to strength and will be a huge hurdle to overcome.'

we've got our two best players abck which is a massive boost!!!

Let's see offense tomorrow. Driving, directed football where opportunities are frequently created and finishing is clinical. I would much rather a 3-2 victory than a 1-0 victory.

Dunn and emop could prove to be the clincher!
LHrover
For the away leg though SoCal a 1-0 win would be better than 3-2!!!
Mikey Delap
Yep, the away goals will be crucial so Villa must NOT score!
JT_daniel
I don't think the away goal rule counts in the league cup semi final.

it did last year with Spurs and Burnley.... big time! Spurs got to play 30 mins extra because of it as well!
