Franco stays a Rover till May

Blackburn have, in the last hour, announced that forward Franco Di Santo has extended his loan spell from Chelsea until the end of the season.

The deal was thought to have hit a snag over financial incentives but that has appeared to be fairly inaccurate as the extension is now in place.

Di Santo has made a total of fifteen appearances for the Blue and White Army, but has contributed just the one goal (v Burnley so that counts as ten goals anyway).

But it is the nature of his all round showings that have impresssed the manager and with the Rovers fans as well - who he shares somewhat of a special bond with.

Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti was thought to be considering recalling Di Santo to fill in for Didier Drogba and Saloman Kalou as they went of to play in the 'conveniently positioned' African Cup of Nations.

However, he has decided his development will be better served at Rovers - which quite frankly it will be.

I personally am pleased with the news.

How about some goals to go along with that impressive work rate and touch though Franco?

It is the best deal for us as Franco is cheap, we know he can play and the fans like him... the only snag is that he hasnt bagged more but I am convinced he will.

teach him where the net is folks and get him scoring regularly!
merlin
Have you seen our strikers Merlin?! whos gonna teach him! he has to learn for himself! lol
Mikey Delap
I think we are perhaps fortunate that he hasn't found the net much - Chelsea would have wanted him back if he'd proved himself. I've been impressed by his enthusiasm and work rate - he clearly wants to play and prove himself - you are absolutely right Mikey (as always) - lets match the work rate with goals!
YORK ROVER
Now he's staying maybe he'll start hitting the back of the net, work rate aside I want my strikers to score goals 1 in 15 games isn't very good??? don't get me wrong I'm glad he's staying but he and the rest of the strikers need to start producing the goods!!!
fellrunner
needs to knock some in, other than that, he a great player. just hope he doesnt attend the jason roberts shooting academy.
LHrover

And if he plays another 15 games and scores 1 more goal then what, We are paying a lot of wages for this kid, his agents want more money for us to keep him sure his wages could be put to more use else were. Matt Darbs direct style was predictable however we would have been better having keeped him (present injury aside) I bet he was on less than Franco, loves BRFC & would have give a better return than 1 in 15, in fact most proven lower league strikers would give us better rate than 1 in 15 Or am I missing the point do we want him to score just 1 more goal in the rest of the season, Chelsea decide to sell us there no good lad for 8 million we buy him and he then suddenly starts banging them in for fun, be it in the championship We do not have time to break a kid in on Chelsea's behalf if the teams below us win games in hand we are bottom 3 again help
Wilky
good point Wilky - but have we got anymore money to buy anyone better? the staff feel there is more to come from this kid and suffice to say I have expected more from so far but **** happens. Lets get behind him and back the boy - he will come good.
Mikey Delap
Wilky, I think you're getting ahead of yourself. Di Santo is young. So is Kalinic. Give them time to mentally catch up to the most pressure packed league in the world. While neither has tickled the onion bag as much as we would like, both are showing footballing acumen. They get to the right places, they make runs and they try to set up their teammates. I'm excited that Di Santo has a 5 more months to find his stride in the Rovers Blue and White.
SoCal Rover
Ah, I've found supporters in SoCal- But Wilky seems to be the new sasman! lol
JT_daniel
I assure you sasman, I'm not SoCal. Check our IP if you are still suspicious. :D
