Diouf hoping for big improvement in 2010

El Hadji Diouf is aiming for a better start to 2010 than he managed an end to 2009 - and he aims to do it for Blackburn Rovers.

There was some doubt as to his future at Rovers after a couple of poor showings in the Blue and White but a move away is not on his mind.

Infact he wants to stay and crack on... smart man.

Diouf spoke to the Lancashire Telegraph and off he went - "The season is long sometimes you have good form, sometimes it's not like that. This time I don't have my best form.

"But the gaffer knows me very well. Maybe it's too cold. But hopefully that goal will help me for the future.

"Now I'm sure my best form can come again. The season is still young, I'm going to work hard on the training ground and start to play well again for my team."

Diouf was part of a treble substitution that bought Rovers level against Sunderland, but lets face it - with the chances created it should have been three points and not just the one.

Diouf was pleased with the goal but not with the current team output.

Diouf continued at pace - "I can say I am very happy to have scored. It's a good point but we're not that happy with the result because it's a game we should have won.

"But life goes like that - we just have to keep going and work hard on the training ground and try to win some games.

"Chris Samba does a very good job so we don't blame him. We had the chance to win the game. It was him who missed an easy one but maybe next time it will be me so there's no blame for him.

"If I look at my stats against Sunderland I know I'd have a good record. I always score against them. It's not the first time El-Hadji Diouf has scored against them.

"It was sweet to score against them - for Ricky (Sbragia) the old manager."

Rovers will now take on the mini-series against Aston Villa, first in the FA Cup and then the big one... two legs for a chance to play at Wembley in the Carling Cup semi finals.

Diouf clarified - "I'm really excited about the semi final, Not just for me but for the fans. A trip to Wembley would be great for the fans. I'm used to doing well in that cup. I know its a big competition and the Blackburn fans believe we have a good chance.

"We play Villa in the FA Cup as well - that's big in England as well and hopefully we can have a run in that too."

Is anyone quite pleased with the man's attitude? Apart from the fact he always refers to himself in the third person!!!

Does anyone still do that? Silly stuff.

Mikey Delap would never do that...

Epic speech from Diouf, good thoughts as well. Pleased to hear he recognises he has not been up to scratch and wants to play better and more.

Couldn't play any worse going on what I have watched over the last few weeks.

lol JT_daniel thinks Diof is very silly to refer to himself as a third person. :)

I have been one of those complaining about Diouf's lack of apparent effort. This though gives me some hope that some better performances are on their way. Now I want to hear from Morten.

good stuff from diouf, maybe he will buck his ideas and start playing, after the goal he should be confident and back to his old snarling self, which is always a good thing

Better than just whinging about not being in the team and wanting away. He certainly looked fired up when he got his chance on Monday! Let's hope he can show his worth where it matters - on the pitch - the guy has got plenty of talent and hopefully we can see some of it soon!!!

We always say it but Sam knows how to handle Diouf which he has proved here. He wasant playing well so he punished him and prob told him straight - the result? A fired up Diouf which when harnassed correctly is a big asset to our club.

Diouf needs Sam and Rovers more than we need him (I believe). I think he's too slow, whines too much and isn't the nicest of characters. I'd have been more impressed if he came out and said, "I've been terrible this season, I don't deserve the high wages I'm being paid, so therefore I'm refunding it to the club, until such time that I improve." Until then I couldn't give a damn what he says, its just good intentions, heard it all before - just let your football do the talking instead.

I love when athletes refer to themselves in the third person! No one was greater at it than Rickey Hendersen, the American Baseball player. Google some of his quotes. They're brilliant
