Sam takes aim at big names

Big Sam has declared Rovers have not got as many points on the board as they should have from the last ten games.

Sam expected to be higher up the table and with more to show for the Blue and White effort - but it has not happened.

The Rovers gaffer has blamed a lack of consistency in his 'reputation' players - three in particular.

Want to know what he said?! Oh go on then... just this once.

Sam spoke to Sky Sports and said - "Pedersen? We want to keep him playing like he did in the second half. Too many players have not lived up to their reputation regularly enough.

"I have had to change the side recently because too many players have not hit their form. I expected us to push on after the first 10 games. I felt by this stage we should have more points. Performances have been spasmodic. That is sometimes Morten, Benni, Dioufy.

"Dioufy got a great goal for us. He took it well. But we didn`t play well and it is disappointing the goals are to get us back in to it, rather than winning it.

"But it was a show of character to get back level twice. We have to be satisfied with a point. Give us a 13 goal striker like Sunderland have and we`d be 8th looking down, rather than where we are.

"I know Diouf as well as anyone. I think from the point of view I know where he comes from, how he ticks. I try to support him. If he steps out of line he gets told and dealt with. in the main I want to get the best out of him on the field. He helped us get a point'

This may be viewed as bit harsh in some quarters but I think the Big Guy has got this spot on.

We should expect more...

Any thoughts?

Maybe we should try Steven Reid instead of Andrews in the middle as he really wants to prove himself...

I agree. On their day, MGP, Benni and Diouff all have bags of talent and class to turn a match but I don't think we see it often enough. Have they been too comfortable at Ewood? - it's great to see players like Callanic, Di Santo and Junior working hard - more consistency from our 'star' players would serve us well! I do wonder whether the system that Rovers play isn't stifling their talent a tad? Lobbing balls into a crowded penalty area and hoping the ball rebounds kindly hardly gives much space for real talent to flourish!

andrews missed two chances, better than normal for him, but hes still no Dunn

Mike J. I agree. It's notable that Rovers performances (and results) have declined without Dunn & Emmerton. Andrews is a good utility player for cover but we need another good attacking midfielder in the Dunn mould or another never say die workhorse like Emmerton to drive the team. Does Reid really fit the bill? If he's straining at the leash to get back then give him his chance! If we can control midfield, we can give our strikers a better chance!
YORK ROVER
All good calls here. Reidy is a good option but can he last 90 mins consistently? I am not sure at present. Andrews was improved for sure but Dunn is missed like a sore thumb!!!

Pedersen has been a mystery for at least eighteen months!

As usual, Big Sam blames everyone but himself. Maybe him and Gartside can make up, and he can head off up the road back to Bolton, paving the way for a Hughes return. Small hope I know, but a man can always dream :-)

MGP - scored and hopefully that will build his confidence - something that he has been losing over the past two seasons. Diouf is well off Premier League pace. Benni needs to lose weight. However, I agree that Big Sam also needs to take a look at himself - motivate them and get them to play. Or is he saying this to tell potential clubs - come and get them.
