Allardyce: We've Only Got Ourselves To Blame

Blackburn Rovers manager Sam Allardyce discusses his thoughts on our draw at Wigan Athletic on Boxing Day with Sky Sports.

Allardyce thought that Rovers did more than enough to beat Wigan, however, we had to settle for a 1-1 draw after being found guilty of once again not taking the chances we created. However, fate was also on Wigan's side when a combination of luck and judgement helped Chris Kirkland deny Benni McCarthy a late winner.

Allardyce told Sky Sports: "I feel so sorry for the players. They've come out and played so well and created enough chances to see the game off.

"We've only got ourselves to blame. Fate is not in our favour at the moment. An example of that is Benni McCarthy's overhead kick late on. I don't know if Chris Kirkland knew much about it.

"The chances came and went. Unfortunately we only had a bad ten minutes at the start of the second half and we've let a goal in.
"

Big Sam knows that we should've killed off Wigan, however, by not doing that we put extra pressure on ourselves ahead of the match against Sunderland on Monday yet the Rovers manager wants to take the positives from the match as well.

He added: "It's a difficult place to play, but it's frustrating that we've not won. It puts that extra pressure on us for Monday.

"It's such a cruel league. If you don't take advantage of your chances you'll be punished. Today we only have ourselves to blame.

"We must take great encouragement from the performance. We had many other opportunities to have scored a second that would have killed Wigan off.
"

You missed the bit where it says - "And we really should have gone ahead when we were on top, Di Santo cost us the game" ;)
Mikey Delap
Ah now did he really say that MikeyD? :(

Hopefully this sets us up nicely for a good win against Sunderland! A win against Wigan would have been nice but I'll settle for a point - this was the fixture that finished Paul Ince last season. I note that we now have 20 points - 3 more than at the same stage last season - so no room for complacency! Rovers 3, Sunderland 1?
YORK ROVER
lol York, no room for complacency then putting us down for a two goal win! lol. And no he didnt really say that JT ;)

Ooops. Forecasting is evidently not my forte!!! After a draw at the DW I expected Rovers to apply themselves - a strong workman-like performance - grinding out two or three goals with the inevitable goal gifted to Sunderland! What happened??? Will have to do better to get any change out of Villa and City!
YORK ROVER
didnt know benni could do overhead kicks...hes really come on since we stopped that pie deal :P
