Top 9 Rovers Moments, from 09!

9th) Manchester United 2 Blackburn Rovers 1 (February 09)

With Rovers still battling near the relegation zone, a trip to Old Trafford seemed a daunting task. Man U were currently experience something of a brick wall status, on their longest streak without conceding. Blackburn however, went behind early, though came out firing in the second half, Roque Santa Cruz equalising. With 20 minutes to go, Rovers were robbed of a valuable point, after a lovely diving effort set Ronaldo up for a free kick, which he blasted into the net

8th) The Loan Signing of Gael Givet. Whilst we had conceded the most amount of goals in the premiership, Sam decided to change the flavour of the defence, bringing in the versatile Gael Givet on loan. He covered either in left or central defence, allowing Warnock to play a holding role in midfield

7th)Blackburn 3 Newcastle 0- January 2009.

The battle of the struggling titans. Both languishing at the bottom, the big 6 point clash was a one way affair, Rovers trouncing the Toon, climbing out of the basement

6th)Blackburn 2 Portsmouth 0 (May 2009)

Another clash which would decide the season, Goals to Benni McCarthy and Morten Gamst Pedersen ensured Rovers would survive another season in the Premier League. The players celebrated Gamst's last strike with so much passion you could feel it from Australia

5th) Blackburn 2 Tottenham 1 (April 2009)

Robbie Keane got one early for Tottenham, Benni scored in the second, continuing his good form. However, it was left to the most unlikliest of scorers, Andre Ooijer, who pounced in the 89th minute, sending the Rovers faithful into raptures. Rovers held out, a superb win. Also memorable for Sas as I had a bit of money on a 2-1 win to the Rovers :D

4th) Liverpool 4 Blackburn 0

Fernando Torres turned it on here, scoring a gem of a goal, however, this will be remembered for the emotional tribute, the 20th anniversary of the Hillsborough Disaster. Prior to kick off, Stevie Warnock laid a wreath down infront of the Kop, one of the most emotional moments in Rovers History, and something duly respected by Liverpool fans alike. Well done lads.

3rd) Blackburn 3 Portsmouth 1 (November 2009)

After trailing at the break, Sam Allardyce rang the changes, sending on Benni McCarthy and Jason Roberts, turning the game on its head. A brace by Roberts, a rare goal for Captain Admiral Nelsen, and a superb performance from Benni McCarthy renewed faith in the Rovers camp, as the Wild Rover was sung for the last 10 minutes of the game.

2nd) Blackburn 2 Wigan 0 (April 2009)

Whilst not the best of encounters, Ryan Nelsen's first goal in the Blue and White was celebrated just like a Cup Victory. The whole team pounced on Nelly, and wow wasnt it a wonderful occasion!

Equal First) Blackburn 3 Burnley 2 (October 2009)

Three First Half goals, Dunn, Di Santo and Chimbonda, were enough to give Rovers Bragging rights over fierce rivals, Burnley, who had taken an early lead. The Blue and White end were in raptures, celebrating the whole game

Equal First- Blackburn 3 Chelsea 3 (ROvers win on Penalties) League Cup Quarter Finals

With Chelsea fielding a second string outfit which could finish second in the premier league, it was all to play for in the crunch tie. Rovers took an early lead through Kalinic, Drogba came on at half time with immediate effect, equalising, whilst Kalou put the home side up 2-1. Brett Emerton equalised for Rovers with a howler from stand in keeper Hilario.

Extra time it was, Benni McCarthy converting a first minute penalty after Hoillet was brought down, however Ferriera equalised after a Robinson howler in the last minute of Extra Time.

Penalties, Benni, Grella, Emerton potted their goals, Kalinic missed whilst Hoillet sunk his in the back of the net as Robinson pulled of two saves to send Rovers through on penalties!!!!

All in All, a drama packed season for Rovers, with several other moments missing the cut! All the best for 2010!

I think you'll find it was the 9th best moment Yid_from_India :) And it's not always about the winning anyway, it's all to easy to look at a result and make an assumption about a match, if you'd seen it you'd know why Sas has it in his top 9. Superb sas!!
