Wigan very confident Rovers game will go ahead

Wigan have spent a large amount of money on gritting the area round the former JJB stadium to make sure that the area is safe for fans to travel for the Boxing Day clash against Rovers.

They have even gone as far as to call in a JCB to plough snow... however no word yet on whether Pascal Chimbonda was driving the large vehicle as a way of keeping him entertained during his driving ban, will keep you updated.

Wigan's chief executive, Brenda Spencer, speaking to the Guardian said: 'Ultimately, we can't control the weather of course, but we are doing everything in our power to try and keep the game played on Saturday. Our first priority has to be the safety of the supporters of both teams, and that is why we are gritting the area and ploughing the snow.

'At the moment the forecast seems quite favourable in that there could be a slight thaw before the weekend. But we cannot afford to leave anything to chance which is why we are trying to clear the stockpiles of snow now and spending a considerable sum of money to make this happen.'

'At this stage we are very confident the game will be played.'

Good news for all Rovers fans, especially the ones planning to go to the game on Boxing Day, especially those of us in beach gear...

Slip the plow driver a fiver and tell him to clear a path to the Wigan goal. I want to see a Rovers put a beatdown at the JJB. These are the away matches where we need to pick up points. Come on you Rovers!
