McDonald: We Always Had That Belief

Blackburn Rovers assistant manager Neil McDonald discusses his thoughts on our Carling Cup win over Chelsea on Wednesday with Sky Sports.

The way that virtually all areas of the national (and International) press and media are going on about Rovers' Carling Cup Quarter-Final penalty victory over Chelsea you'd think that they lost it as opposed to Rovers winning it, as was actually the case!!

However, one man (along with a large number of Rovers fans and the players) that always had belief that we could win was McDonald who was delighted to end his tenure of caretaker manager in Sam Allardyce's absence with the win that puts us into the Semi Final's. Seeing the lead go twice could've seen heads go down but Rovers never gave up and we eventually won on penalties, as the Rovers assistant thought we deserved. You are able to watch and listen to what McDonald thought here:

Getting drawn against Aston Villa in the Semi-Finals is also not a bad draw really is it. That'll mean we play them three times in as many (maybe less) weeks in the FA Cup Third Round and the two legged Carling Cup Semi Final in January. I bet we can't wait can we!!

Neil, i hope you give yourself a big pat on the back, you have done a great job in the big mans absence & after last nights efforts, top job all round. Bring on the Villa!

When it went to penalties I was more than a little nervous so I'd be lying if I said I always had that belief!! However, we've done it and we're now just two matches away from the Final!!

it's gonna be a historic fun villa series. looking forward to it.

when it went topenalites i was confident blackburn would win as chelsea have only won one penalty shoot-out since 2000

I have to say and I almost knocked up an article to rant about this but I settled down to watch the highlights last night to enjoy, for once, a hard fought victory over one of our recent bogey teams and what happens? Go on, guess.....Yup, the "well edited" highlights made it look like Rovers were lucky to go in 1 up and were lucky all around to win the tie. I was **** I N G tamping!!!!! To be fair though Lawro ate some humble pie and said we played well (major shocker!) as well as Claridge. Still, the BBC must hate the pride of Lancashire for some reason, director general not a Dingle is he?

isn't it strange how cup draws mimic league games that are due around the same time!

Neil did an excellent job in Sam's absence. Several formation, personnel and strategy changes. How is it that Gary Megson and Phil Brown have jobs and Neil is only a #2?
