Morten talks contracts

Rovers winger/throw in taker Morten Gamst Pedersen has come out in public today (not like that!) and told everyone he will soon be considering his options with regards to a new deal/new club as his current contract runs out in the summer.

Morten, speaking to Dagbladet said - 'There will come a time when I have to consider the situation,'

'But Blackburn are a fantastic club, I will always say that.'

Pedersen was dropped from the squad altogether on Sunday but made the bench last night. However, in a suprise to yours truly, he is not stomping his feet... he wants to prove to the boss that he is worthy of another go in the team.

Peds added, 'Obviously it's not nice to be out of the side. I want to play,'

'I will do my best and try to convince the coach that I should play.'

That is actually a good attitude from a man that normally screams like my little sister when out of the team.

But what would you do with regards to his new deal?

Interesting stuff. But does the "Blackburn are a fantastic club" comment mean he is trying to cover all bases with regards to fans/new club/Rovers etc?

This is an interesting one. Firstly he's not in a great position to negotiate because of his shocking performances and you don't want to just give out pay rises for the sake of it, but with his contract up in the summer if your chairman plays hardball there is the pottential for it to backfire. I expect this to run and run...

Kind of hoping we do give him a new contract. At least if he fails, we can sell him for something
sasman
Give him a contract, then put him up for sale and get as much money as possible for him and buy someone half decent.

as mercenary as it sounds, that'd be best for the club

We can't let his walk away for nothing but we can't give him a long-term contract either as he hasn't earned it has he?? Hopefully this spell out of the side will give him the kick up the butt he's needed, or it will work in reverse and just make him more lazy and see out his contract before taking his pick elsewhere!!

Surely then the only option would be to sell him in Jan?! We cant give him a deal and then sell him?! hes not that thick!!!

I think we need to decide - is MGP going to be a first team player or a squad player. If it's squad then will he be happy with that? If yes, keep him on a lower salary. If no, let him go - but get Reid back from QPR first. I wouldn't want to see both players sold as we need replacements which could prove costly.

perhaps if he accepts to play for free we can keep him, but really it IS time to sell

I doubt he will be happy as a squad player at all. I think what he wants and what he is good for are two different things...
