Dunn Not Giving Up On England Recall

Blackburn Rovers midfielder David Dunn hasn't given up hope of getting back into the England squad in time for the World Cup Finals in South Africa.

Dunn was last capped by England against Portugal in 2002 (the only cap that Dunn has won), however, despite this absence Dunn still believes that a recall in time for the 2010 World Cup isn't beyond him as England manager Fabio Capello will judge his selection on club form and Dunn's form for Rovers this season has been exceptional!! Had it not been for injuries (which have seriously impacted his career) the former England Under-21 International captain believes he would've won more International caps.

Dunn told the Daily Mail: "I look at the England team now and think, 'Bloody hell I played with all these players! I was the captain'.

"I honestly feel that if it hadn't been for the injuries I would have got a lot more caps, but I lost my way a little bit.

"Mr Capello has proved he will pick players who are in good form for their clubs and every English player is thinking if they hit a good run then there's a chance.

"I've had a good start to the season so you never know.
"

The 29-year-old also feels with the benefit of hindsight leaving Ewood Park the first time round was a mistake and might have been a reason for the downturns in his career at times so he maybe should've been a bit more tolerant and respectful towards former Rovers manager Graeme Souness, as it was a fallout with Souness that saw him leave Rovers in the first place. Dunny feels lucky to have had a career where he's played for his country and his local club though so will be forever grateful for that.

He added: "But I've played for my local team and I've played for England. Growing up, that's all I ever wanted."

Personally I can't see any reason why Dunny can't make it back into the England squad. If his form continues over the next few months then he'd be hard to ignore wouldn't he?? I feel that Capello should've named him in the squad that faced Brazil and his failure to have done so could mean it's to late, however, Dunny still has a chance.

It will be really difficult but he IS in the right form to get noticed... I am glad to see he knows he messed up when he was younger, we all did though didnt we?!

I think he's chasing a lost cause now Joe Cole is back on the scene!

One can never give up hope though Merlin.

I wouldnt say he is chasing a lost cause as he can play a number of positions... if jermaine bloody Jenas can get in the squad then the vastly superior David Dunn can!
Mikey Delap
well his brilliant goal against bolton is just gonna increase is chances
aadil4rovers

Capello can't ignore him now - not after the Bolton display. If there are going to be 8 midfielders in the squad - Lampard, Gerrard, Barry, Beckham, Wright-Phillips/Lennon/Walcott, Joe Cole, Carrick/Jenas/Huddleston - Dunn? I personally would pick Joe Cole before Dunny only due to his experience and skill - but in 8 months or so any one of those guys could be injured and Dunn could be in.

All he can do is keep doing his best, and which ever way you look at it that is good news for us!! G'wan Dunny lad!!!
