'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Allardyce gives swine flu update

Sam Allardyce has confirmed that swine flu has hit the Blackburn camp but has refused to name the players names.

It is already common knowledge that Dave Dunn and Chris Samba are two sufferers but it is now apparent one more player has contracted as well as some backroom staff.

Allardyce, speaking to Sky Sports said - 'It's definitely swine flu - you've speculated on the names and I'll leave it at that.

'We have had one more case this morning, one more player and there are a couple of staff.

'Other than that, the others that we left behind are recovering well but not available for tomorrow.'

Allardyce said Blackburn had to play the game against Chelsea because of Premier League rules and that several of the first team have been carrying the symptoms which may explain a lot of players tailing off and playing poorly in Saturdays game.

Allardyce continued - 'The Premier League has tried to sit on the fence by saying that we didn't request to have the game called off,'

'We knew we couldn't get the game called off because we were told way back in February or March when we took some guidelines that unless there was some government legislation, everybody had to do whatever they had to do.

'If there was a swine flu outbreak, you couldn't call a game off, no matter what.

'We fulfilled our total, 100 percent, responsibility by confirming two cases of swine flu and suggesting that it looks like one or two other players and members of staff had similar symptoms, and we made the same phone call to Chelsea.'

'It's a highly contagious strain as everybody knows but I can't comment any further than that.'

I hope this doesnt mean that both more Rovers' players and Chelsea players are in danger now as well?!

What a nightmare!

the othere player might be chimbonda as he wasnt playing against chelsea. Any news on recovery times and wether we will play peterborough on tuesday

Chimbo had a thigh injury.. maybe it was Di Santo and thats why he was sat with the chelsea bench! LOL
rover23
Di Santo was inelligible to play against his parent club, Grella and Chimbonda were injured - as for those who played - perm any 11 out of 14! Must admit that Nelson looked a bit worse for wear but that might just have been the stress - it must have felt like being Captain of the Titanic!

Here's hoping for a speedy recovery - Old Trafford is hardly the place for a patched up side in the midst of a flu epidemic! If we are compelled to field a side - no matter what - we might be playing reserves, youngsters and sick men - have a heart Sir Alex!
YORK ROVER
Nah they will be looking to probably hit 5 past us also. Well every cloud has a silver lining i guess thiss might let our youngsters and maybe even Kalinic to show their talent and what a place to start then the theatre of dreams

These big games can be the making of players like Kalinic, Hoilett and Di Santo... I think Dunny, Samba and Chimbo are out for tonight as well as Di Santo who cant play!

The game is still goin ahead albeit with a few heads missing for obvious reasons, the Beeb reckon Dunn returned for training yesterday and is likely to play. (Although i doubt sam would risk him what with the UTD game on saturday) Darren Ferguson is feeling very cocky about his team getting the win against us tonight so i hope our makeshift squad wipes the smile off his face.

What di santo cant even play in cup games Hopefully a blessing in disguise so our other strikers can get a start
