Snoop Drog offers Benni some support

Chelsea ace Drogba has backed close friend Benni McCarthy to make the South Africa squad for 2010 World Cup, held in South Africa.

Benni has struggled to get in the Rovers team this term with the excellent performances of David Dunn and Franco Di Santo and will be sweating on his space in the S.Africa squad.

He has received a boost though with the sacking of arch nemesis Joel Santana recently, opening the door for a fresh start.

Didier Drogba, speaking to Sky Sports said - 'South Africa have to include their best players and Benny McCarthy is one of them,'

'I have to defend my good friend. Not because he is my friend, but because he is a very good player. They need him.'

These words are likely to hit home in Africa coming from such a prominent Premier League player, but will Benni need to move to secure his spot?

With Rovers playing a 4-4-1-1 and Dunny on fire - where does he fit in?

If i remember right.. Benni played up front on his own against Villa last season and did very well!

Benni is past his best but u dont let quality like that leave u.....we may need him after xmas?? Why wasnt Kalinic on the bench on Sun?? Injured or still "adjustin" to premiership life?? ha ha It makes me laugh that, i wouldnt mind bein paid 40k a week and then bein allowed to "settle in" for 6 months!!!! ha

Kalinic is on less than 20k a week though? and sam said hes not ready, and sam knows better than any of us.. after all he sees him in training every week... Benny will be needed after xmas... he just needs a few sub appearances to prove himself..
rover23
I am pretty sure Nikola is not on 40k mani mate! It is a shame that Benedict cant stay on the right side of his weight as he is a cracking player and our best finisher IMO.

but with di santo unavailable for this saturday's match will Benni be able to show what he is made of again?

I would love to see Benni and Hoillet up front together for the Carling Cup match. Then put Dunn underneath them and Pederson, Grella and Emo in the midfield. If that lineup can't put in 3 against Peterborough then we need to start jettisoning dead weight.

uuuuum if im not misunderstood Benni has had a bit of an injury to his hamstring this season? so he has been out of the first team for that reason, why change the team when it is working so well for Rovers at home... might aswell chop and change it for the game at the weekend against chelsea, unless were going for a 0-0 draw, i dont really see us getting anything else out of it!! But Benni will be about for at least one more season yet!!
Blue n Whitey
I can see this making Benni's ears**** up and make him want to move on in January, that is unless he can force his way back into the starting XI on a regular basis, and that would seem difficult.

I only said p r i c k up, I wasn't being rude lol!!

I think Benni has a role to play at Rovers - Di Santo may go back to Chelsea and Dunn could get injured or lose form - in which case BSA needs options. Benni for the World Cup - seems logical to me.
YORK ROVER
with a new manager I see benni getting back into the sa sqaud
