Kalinic Not Physically Ready

Kalinic Not Physically Ready

Blackburn Rovers striker Nikola Kalinic is hoping that the Croatian Football Association will see fit to let him miss International duty next week, should a call-up come??

The 21-year-old isn't looking to defy the Croatian FA and isn't planning anything with any malice at all, however, Kalinic doesn't feel as if he is physically ready to perform for Croatia (with the striker expected to be called up for the Under-21 side) and would rather stay at the club and work on his fitness.

Kalinic told Sky Sports: "I was talking with the secretary of the Croatian FA Zorislav Srebrnic and I told him that I'm not physically ready to play for Croatia.

"For that reason it is better for me to stay in Blackburn. That is what Sam Allardyce also told be, and so I will able to work on some special training when players are on international duty.

"I agree with the manager. I know how I can play when I'm completely ready and I know I'm really not in top form.
"

Kalinic insists that he'd also be looking to decline the invitation from the senior Croatian International side if this also came along as he feels he'd be better of staying in Blackburn and working on his fitness.

He added: "So it will be the best for all of us if I don't travel back home and stay in Blackburn.

"Even if Slaven Bilic would call me to the senior team my reaction would be the same.
"

There is often a lot of controversy about International call-ups and players not answering them, some often accused of "snubbing" the chance but it's not like Kalinic is snubbing Croatia is it?? If it's going to benefit the players, Rovers and Croatia in the long-term wouldn't it be for the best for him not to play for the Under-21 side?? It would be nice to see common sense prevail on this one.

not a big deal anyway as at the moment he is croatia's 5th choice striker. it will take way more time for him to reach his top form as he has to get used to PL football but also he missed all of pre season with hajduk which will make the adjustment period even harder so i hope you rovers fans just have patience in him as he can become a top striker for blackburn.

He has a great mindset and attitude and i for 1 cannot wait until hes really match fit and eager to go, i think most on here will agree that he does look the business, its just a shame he missed so much pre-season training. His time will come we just sadly have to sit and wait.

I think this is perfect common sense. It is nice to see he is open and honest about things and acknowledges that Sam knows best. I am confident this is money well spent.

...but wouldn't him playing a match (i.e. under 21s so he'll get 90 minutes) help his match fitness and benefit us? I'm sure Sam has the right idea here, but I think Sam messed up in giving him his debut too early and now he's having to back-track on his level of fitness.

I think the plan during that Sunderland match was to play him for 10/15 mins but he ended up coming on early due to the Di Santo injury. It might not have started well but I think Sam is treating the situation right now - the last thing Sam will want is for Kalinic to go away and play more than he should and end up getting injured without his supervision.

Freidel: isn´t it good to let him try, and let him see what it takes to manage this level? Maybe he realize that he have to work hard to play every week? He will be our super striker around Xmas, and that will be my best xmasgift this year :)

I think that Sams training methods are some of the best in the world in terms of getting people fit and keeping them that way.....he will probably do some really good work with the Rovers staff over the break....dont think its just match fitness that he needs, its core strength and endurance!!...one things for sure, when Sam is finished with him he will be fit enough to perform at the top of his abilities and if he is as gifted as has been reported then we will see the fruits soon....
