Reid: One Of The Biggest Seasons Of My Career

Blackburn Rovers midfielder Steven Reid (plagued by injuries in recent years) admits that this season could be the biggest of his footballing career.

Reid has barely featured for Rovers over the past two seasons and had another injury scare on his return to action earlier this season, lasting only 45 minutes of the Carling Cup win over Gillingham. However, with playing as much for Rovers and a possible World Cup place up for grabs with the Republic of Ireland (if they make it) the midfielder knows this is an important season for him:

Reid told the Lancashire Telegraph: "It's definitely one of the biggest seasons of my career.

"There are a few things to aim for. I've got the Premier League with Blackburn, hopefully the World Cup next summer and if all goes well hopefully I will extend my stay here.

"I've just got this year left at Blackburn, so I've got a lot to prove.
"

The 28-year-old has been quick to thank the fans and the club for sticking by him during his injury nightmares and now wants to repay this faith with Reidy also hoping that he can earn himself a new contract in the process.

He added: "The way the club have been with me, they've stuck by me and the fans have been brilliant, so hopefully I can repay them this season. It would be nice at the end of it to extend my stay further than the 12 months I've got left.

"I haven't had any talks about my contract so it's just a matter of getting back to fitness, back into the team and proving myself to the new manager, who's not seen me play for Blackburn as yet.
"

Personally I really do hope that Reidy can prove himself worthy of a new contract but my main concerns have always been that the quality that he showed before his injuries started getting more serious may well have been lost?? It also looks as though remaining fit is a major problem for him. A fully fit and able Reidy is certainly worth a new contract, however, just taking a few steps at a time is the best thing to do with the Republic of Ireland International if you ask me. If you do not build things up too much you'll not be as disappointed if (but hopefully not) the worst does happen. We're all still full behind you though Reidy of course!!

I hope Reidy does the business and earns himself a new deal.. but I do worry about his fitess and his all round sharpness after being out for such a long period.

Take it one step ata time on the pitch - ten mins here and there. the twenty before building up to a second half - then a full game. Its the only way IMO.

if he playes more than 3 games it will be the biggest season of his career LOL
