Will Big Sam Stick Or Twist?

It's the 1st of September today and it is a chance for clubs like Rovers to either make a splash in the market or cut their losses and keep the players that we have rolled with for a while.

It could be a funny old day though as Sam is well known to want to bring in more players but has been told by the board to sell before he buys.

Sam has apparently prepared a list of players he is prepared to sell, if the price is acceptable, to raise funds and the list contains the following players -

* Benni McCarthy
* Zurab Khizanishvilli
* Keith Andrews (even though he has just signed a new deal)
* Morten Gamst Pedersen.

Now whilst accepted that we don't know these for absolute certain these are widely accepted to be the players that we can afford to lose but only if Sam gets the players he wants to bring in.

Rumoured incomings are Kevin Nolan and Benjani amongst others if the current players are sold and not to mention the Big Sam special - i.e. players that we have never heard of unless you are called Bom Bom.

All in all, it could be a day of very little activity but maybe, just maybe, we could see a few leave and a few come in as we look to freshen things up.

It will go one way or another but either way it should be an interesting day.

Please don't sell Benni we really need his instinct for finishing. I really wish we hadn't have sold Matty Derbyshire now, and this could be the same as that.

Of course this is all rumour but it has made the day more exciting than I thought it would be!

I´m afraid today will be our D-day. We have to get in more players with the right abilities, or else we will fight for PL survival. We don´t need players who have to practice a year before they are fit (Elrio, Kalinic and Di Santo). We need quality. I´m very exited, but I really can´t understand how Big Sam could get us more players during the day.
lazyfrog
I don't see much happening but maybe I will be surprised!

I think Benni will go to Porto, it have been mentioned sometimes during the summer and I think Benni will like to go to his old club. I think it is alright to let him go, he hasn't show a lot lately, and now that we are playing with only one attacker in home matches! Then why almost have to many.......cheers

I think 5pm will not be the "real deadline" as deals will go on past that date... just my opinion.

i am just looking forward to watching sky sports news all day and hoping rothen comes to us but i doubt it

Im really disappointed with not trying to get Eidur Gudjohnsen on loan or something. He has something that we haven´t had for ages, creativity, skills and he even knows where the goal is. And I would start crying if we buy Benjani or something stupid. Though I would love to see Taylor in Roversshirt.
lazyfrog
Sorry to break this to you a708, Rothen has gone to Rangers

sasman
Honestly?.....No
fransavarese
No thanks sas, if you like, we can send him over to auss, im sure he will be able to lodge in a robbie fowler house.

What's with the fatalists? Rovers are in great shape and working through a run of bad luck. In three matches against mid-table (or better) teams we've looked like the dominant team. Our defense has depth and experience, our midfield is taking shape with multiple versatile players and we have a plethora of exciting strikers. The board continues to buy low and sell high on talent, keep ticket prices low and ensure that we have a financially stable team to root for. This is an exciting time to be a Rovers fan. We're only going up! Three cheers for Sam, John and the boys in Blue and White!

Know we have to trust Big Sams new players. I´ve pray for Kalinic to find his way soon as possible. We can´t have any injuries either, so maybe Paul Inces masterpiece last year was great compared to this one? Anywaym good to see that this will be another excited season. And John Williams, this time I will remember those 9 million we got from Gally and Warnock. I´m not sure, but I dont know where Bentley money were spend. I expect them well spend at xmas, not for porks and presants

Drum roll.... And you bought NO-ONE.
TeddyLyon
Well bit of a damp squid in the end which was half expected with these transfer windows but we can hope hey?!?! And the Bentley money was partly used on transfers but partly to reduce debt - we are £10 million better off debt wise than what we had 2 seasons ago!
Mikey D
Well said SoCal the rallying cry of loyal Rovers supporters through the ages!!! (Apart from the glory days of the mid 90's of course) It's what I love about supporting Rovers - eternal optimism! Frustrating as it is, we should recognise that the club seem to be following a path of financial prudence - which hopefully will avoid the pitfalls that other clubs have fallen into and maybe attract the one transfer I am looking forward to - not one dependant on transfer windows - a new owner / major investor to inject some more funds (even modest) to carry on the vision of the Late Great Jack Walker.
YORK ROVER
I think that is part of the boards plan - get rid of a lot of the debt and reducing the wage bill makes the club a lot more attractive proposition to buy! From a cynical point of view - Who wants to buy a club when 85% of turnover is on wages, the owners want too higher a sale price, debts are high compared to club size and that struggles to attract more than an average Premiership crowd? Financial wise that doesnt make sense.
Mikey D
The right decision was made, we didn't need to sell anyone and we didn't need to bring anyone else in. Eveyone likes to bring in another player on Transfer Deadline Day but if you don't need to why do it, I'm content with our lot.
