Rovers Sign Salgado!

Rovers have today completed the signing of Real Madrid legend and ex-Spain international Michel Salgado.

The deal has just been announced and Michel has signed a two year deal.

Sam Allardyce was in a tug of war with the board to make this deal happened and he has played the game and won the fight to sign the Spanish hardman.

Salgado will wear number 27 for Rovers and will be available once international clearance arrives.

The hard man can play at full back as well as holding midfielder. His first game is likely to be against Gillingham in the league cup next week after a testimonial game in his honour at Madrid has been played on Monday.

Salgado completed his medical yesterday after being described as being in 'first class shape' by Rovers boss Sam Allardyce.

I know I have said it before but this could very well be a stroke of absolute genius as Michel has all the attributes to make a big mark in this league.

Welcome aboard amigo!

I'm a little be suprised by this transfer. It reminds me a bit of when we got Davids. No disrespect intended but the big question I'd have is why has a player of his stature gone to Blackburn? Especially when you consider it was on a free, why were no other "bigger" clubs interested in taking him on? It was the same when we got Davids and as excited as I was even I thought "hold on, why's he come to us? Is he completely past it?". Obviously in that case I was wrong and he had a couple of great seasons for us. I don't see Salgardo having much of a physical impact on your play - how much influence can a fullback have after all - but no doubt it will be the experience and winning mentality that he will install in your dressing room that will be of great benefit. I'll be intersting to see how this pans out this season. Good luck to you.

There was Real Zaragoza after him and they aint half bad - he came here because he wants to play in the English league and Sam sold the club to him. end of story.

This is a brilliant signing, he knows what english football is all about, and he still looks hungry to succeed personally in this league... Big Sam is building a very strong squad, i am pleased!
Blue n Whitey
He said in an interview in Marca that he spoke to Hierro who spoke highly of Sam and that because he spent summers in England as a kid he wanted to play in England at some stage in his career.

Another exciting signing, but does this leave anyone wondering where Grella now fits in? Judging by the weekend Jacobson will keep RB and its therefore logical Salgado will be unleashed in the midfield... what about the holding Aussie?
retroflair31
there is now heavy competition for all players, except for Robbo, which is always a good thing.
dominator2800
I suppose it is incentive for Grella to stay fit Retro!!!

Never hurts to have too much cover, especially they way we end up with crocked players over the season, were either jinxed or the training needs to be looked into.

There used to be a problem with a hill that rovers used to train on that did everyones hamstrings in!?!? Maybe its the return of that? lol

VERY happy with this signing, brings in quality and experience on and off the pitch that will help us NOW and in the future as well as if those younger players coming through can't learn from somone like Salgado they'll never learn!!
