Sam Wins Over Board And Is Adding Salgado

There are numerous reports in Spain, England and in the Times that Blackburn Rovers have agreed a two-year contract with Michel Salgado, the ex-Real Madrid and Spain star who is 33 years old.

The board had been reluctant to part with the cash as they have been trying to trim the wage bill but Sam has made this deal to good to refuse.

Salgado and his agent are now expect back in England today to finalise the deal.

Sam seems to have worked his magic here as Salgado appears to have agreed to a massive reduction in his £60,000 a week wages.

With Salgado agreeing to this the deal now looks a certainty - Sam Allardyce 1 Blackburn board 0.

This could be up there with Jay Jay Okocha with an absolute move of genius as Salgado will add winning mentality and spirit to the dressing room as well as his more obvious talents.

This really could be brilliant, I have a god feel about this as Sam can keep him on the right side of the discipline line but bring out the animal.

Interesting move, let see how this one reflects the team. Hope he will play Salgado on the midfield, so Jacobsen can keep his place on the right back....cheers

Hey at 33 he's a spring-chicken (in my opinion!) he can play for us for years!

Salgado is a very clever player and Allardyce knows what he is doing bringing him in. Maybe it might get him to try some different tactics -- ie less long ball punts. I don't think Allardyce will drop the "kick lumps out of them" approach, though.

This is a definitly a nothing to loose- signing. I hope Big Sam want to use him in a Tugay position. Even if Salgado is to old for managing PL level, we still have a huge personality and experience that can develop the young players. Well done Sam, well done

Great player, if a bit old. Allardyce has a great record of brining in older European stars and getting the best out of them (Think Campo, Djorkaef, etc.) so you're probably onto a winner with Salgado.

There is no way we can lose if we can get this tied up as his influence alone will be worth the experience.

Could be a very positive move for Rovers but im hoping that it wont be at the expense of jaccobsen.

that would be super harsh on Lars - he has done more than enough to keep his spot.

nothing to dislike here, i agree with norwegianrover here. Think sam is thinking that he can do what he did with heirro and push salgado into midfield... and lets face it, he seen how to create world-class play, so recogn he should be up for the job! Plus shows how high we could be aiming!

Excited to see this happen. Do you think we would now play a rigid diamond formation with salgado holding in front of the defense, allowing someone like dunny to go further forward or would we keep a centre mid pairing?
fransavarese
I think we would keep the flat 4 in midfield in my eyes. Grella/Salgado/Andrews holding and N'Zonzi/Dunn/Reid pegging it on!!!

strange one as although he has plenty of medals, madrids defence has always been their downfall, i watch alot of spanish football and have for many years and i dnt believe he can offer any more than the boy jakobsson who i was impressed with at the weekend. I think there are better freebies out there that the wages could be spent on, thats just my opinion
