Allardyce On Salgado and Warnock

Rovers chief Sam Allardyce has stood firm and demanded that Michel Salgado be his last signing of the summer - as he feels Salgado can be a great plus to the squad and maybe even a midfield addition.

The Rovers board expressed concern over letting more money go but Sam is adament he wants Salgado - and it appears the board will allow Sam this one last request.

And Rovers chief Allardyce, speaking to Sky Sports said - 'Michel can be a Fernando Hierro type of player for us and bring up the standards in the dressing room.

'I met him and it didn't take him long to say 'yes,' it was two hours into a three-hour meeting, it was music to my ears. I could see his enthusiasm.

'One of my strengths is my judgement of character and I know he is just what we need. I want Michel not just as a player but as a person.

'He has got the potential of playing in one or two positions. I took Hierro as a centre half but he was too slow, but what a midfield player he turned out to be.

'Michel has had 24 days of training at Real Madrid and played a game and a half for them. Now it's about getting him here. I don't care what position we are talking about - just sign him.'

Allardyce has also importantly decided that Stephen Warnock is not for sale. Aston Villa are interested in the Rovers player of the season but Sam has ruled out a sale.

Sam continued - 'I don't know what their interest is all about - there is no bid that we would describe as acceptable. Sacrifice him? Not really.'

I am glad to hear that this is the case. Judging by what Stephen has been saying he seems very happy here as he is always speaking out saying 'we should push for Europe' and 'he is excited by the new signings' and now Sam has moved in to say he is not for sale.

Good move Mr.Allardyce.

I personally feel that Salgado would be a great addition so am glad Sam is pushing for this. Likewise good to see Warnock is held in such high regard.

Yeah, if Salagdo still has 60% of what he used to have a few years ago at Real then weve still got a good un, saw on another site he was being slagged off for being a fat waste of space but from the pics of him he looks far from fat, looks in good shape, i think we need someone with a touch of class, a bit of flair, BFS wants this lad so his reasoning must be sound, no way he'd sign a past it player.

I'm still worried that we need to sell some players before we can sign salgado. Don't like these signs about we need money. Offen there are not smoke without a fire. I don't hope that the 4 mill offer for warnock is a hint that next time they will sell him....... Do we want to sell Warnock to get Salgado?...Cheers

One thing I would say is it will not be a like forlike swap at all! Sam wont sell Warnock after those comments.

i like this positive move, but just because heirro became a good midfielder, doesn't necessarily mean that salgado will follow in his boots! once again, ill be happy if we get him on a cheaper deal! a player of his calibur shouldn't really be looked over!

Yeah I too am glad Sam has moved to quell any rising speculation about Warnock. He is a very good player we need to keep hold of. As for Salgado, i've been hoping this will go through from the moment it surfaced. I think he would be a great addition to the squad, not just for the playing element but also his experience. Fingers crossed the board allow the wages. But where is all this money going? Still, as long as it is safe guarding our long-term future I'd rather that than a couple more signings.

French medias are writing about a 3 years contact with Rothen has been agreed, then we will only miss the agreement with PSG. But if we get Rothen we will not get Salgado as well without selling anymore. I can't see we are getting both of them....

Every time he speaks, Sam shows his quality. Measured and strong responces- a good player wants to join with us, and our best player wants to stay. Good to hear Warnock talking about Europe. We are a club with ambition and this season, it can be reconised

I really hope Salgado is brought in!! If that means selling a fringe player then I say do it. e.g Gallagher

How can we agree a contract with Rothen before the clubs have settled matters?

Nice of you to tell us about your strengths, Fat Sam. How about going on a diet of humble pie?

Despite what BSA said - I get the uneasy feeling that Rovers could be tempted to cash in on Warnock could go if the money is high enough - as a means to an end - one sale - say 8 - 10m could fund Rothen, Salgado and just possibly even another bargain player? Hope I'm wrong.
